This is another brand new stout for 2012! This beer uses a blend of spices as well as Ethiopian Coffee from our friends at Conscious Coffees in Boulder to create the café amaretto experience in an Imperial Stout. Spices: Star Anise, Amaretto Extract.

draft. so there’s certainly a strong coffee character in both nose and flavor, sure, but I don’t find anything in here that says "amaretto" - almonds and apricot pits? nope. instead it’s a rather basic (though not simple) dark roast coffee bean (complete with essence of oil, oranges and vegetables) with a moderate citrus hop rate and a finish that resembles orange-flavored milk chocolate. so, I can only assume that the amaretto is coming through as this orange candy / liqueur (thanks to the alcohol) quality. not bad. orgeat.

Tap at Vine. Black with a thin but persistent light tan head. Big roasty dark coffee aroma with nice dark chocolate tones. Lovely to sniff, if a bit simplistic. Taste has huge sweetness, a bit too much so, but also huge flavor. Lots of sweet dark chocolate flavor with a balanced but quite assertive earthy java tone, slight learheryness in the coffee, finishes coffee-bitter with earthy dark chocolate mocha flavor.

Tap @ Vine Street. Black appearance with a dark brown head. Aromas of dark chocolate, espresso, roastiness, almonds, and light nuts. Somewhat syrupy/extract-like, rich chocolate, fairly roasty, almond flavor. Not overall a bad beer but I didn’t like the extract/syrupy element.
