American-Belgio India Black Ale American hop flavor marries the spice and fruit notes from the Belgian yeast. Although this beer is dressed in black using Carafa 3 black malt; minimal roast character is perceived.

Sampled on tap at the Southern Sun in March. A really nice brew with a roasted malty base in the IPA. A rather enjoyable version of this beer type.

Tap at Vine Street - black pour with a thick, lasting tan head - looks pretty amazing, actually - nose is deep roast, anise, chocolate, light smoke, woody hops - flavor is fairly similar to the nose - a lot.of anise and bitter chocolate from the malt, woody character from the hops, ending with deep roast and strong bitterness - marginal belgian character - very solid imperial black ipa.

Tap at Mtn Sun. Pours brown with fine khaki head, decent retention, thin lace. Aroma is hoppy and citrus on the nose, with big fruit and ester tones, banana, apple from the belgian yeast, overall smells quite sweet. Flavor is sweet, fruity, with a mildly hoppy, citrus, pine finish. Aroma and flavor don’t really match. Only the faintest hint of perceived roast. Soft carbonation, light body, and juicy texture. A decent Black IPA.

On tap at Vine Street. Pour is deep brown, almost black with a big khaki head and great lacing. Roasty, cocoa, somewhat spicy, grapefruity, orange peel, earthy, a touch herbal, and bready aroma. Taste is big roasty, bready, herbal, earthy, grapefruit, grass, somewhat spicy, coffee, and chocolate with a medium bitter finish. Medium mouthfeel with high carbonation. I really dig the way the Belgian yeast intertwines with the toasty malt profile and juicy hops.
