on tap at the Brewpub in Boulder on 9/25/09... pours a deep black with a nice tan head... very smooth big body over the palate with big roasted malts and a big nut presence... pretty solid Imp Stout but fairly one dimensional.

Have had on many occasions the last 3 years when visiting either Southern or Mountain. Nutty, sweet, and hoppy. My go-to stout every February.

Tap at Vine Street - thick black pour, with a frothy, dark tan lace - March 2009 vintage - slick, thick mouthfeel - intense roast and bitterness reminiscent of coffee - bittersweet chocolate - alcohol warmth, but nothing I would consider heat - chewy, but easy-drinking for the style - a bit of cocoa and continuing warmth through the dry finish - very good.

Draught. Black with small brown head. Aroma is fruity - apples, pear, berries - also notes of chocolate and roastedness. Surprisingly hoppy aroma. Taste is sweet and similar to aroma in that fruit is most dominant aspect. Medium bitter finish that lingers.

On tap at Vine Street. Black with a dark brown head. Surprisingly smells of citrus and grassy hops, a bit of soy sauce. Some light cocoa notes too. Hts the tongue with lots of hop bitterness upfront, with some grapefruit and orange. Somewhat like a DIPA with its intense hop and intense malt backbone. But this soon mellows into dark chocolate tones with a slight berry touch. Vanilla extract shows up as well. This is like an extra chocolaty black IPA, and I dig it!

On tap at the brewpub during GABF 2009. Pours a murky dark brown to black with thin tan head. Aroma is sweet and roasted with notes of chocolate, ripe dark fruit, caramel, light hints of coffee. Flavor is much of the same with heavier chocolate presence and more coffee notes. Medium to full body with a pleasing malty finish.
