Draught at Vine Street Pub in May, 2012: Radiant straw yellow. Broken, short-lived foam. Decent nose of mineral, lemon cake, toasty baguette, grass clippings, and kumquat. Underlying paper, soap, dough, and lemongrass. Firm carbonation, a tad fuzzy. Dry and lemon zesty with a brisk mineralic snap. Soundly structured malt yields a serene vanilla cookie sweetness along with a crackery and sugar cookie dryness. Hops are nicely defined, though teetering on the brink of becoming aspirinlike in their staunch, damp-grass-clippings bitterness. Delicate lemon balm and aniseed notions gently poke through, as well. Very lean and well-attenuated, yet not at all hollow due to adequate hop vibrancy and suppleness of hop flavor. While the malt does give a mild crackle, there is a limp, wet paper dimension that plagues its development. Nectary hop remnants gracefully poke through in the finish, though the hops are perpetually asprinlike and grassy which overshadow the ensuing crisp mineral-and-malt flourish. Well, there are no glaring flaws, which is certainly laudable. The carbonation, however, is fuzzy rather than soft and snug. And, as much as I love pilsner, this rendition is ultimately too straightforward. There’s definitely some promise here, with that said.

Tap at Vine Street - pretty sharp and rough around the edges for a pils - starts off with sweet but relatively clean maltiness, followed by some rougher, more husky malt tones, light mineral - this is followed by some pretty potent hop bitterness - when first served, this character melded decently with the mineral note, but after a warming for a few minutes, it became a little abrasive - not terrible, but I was hoping for a lot more.

Tap @ Vine Street. Golden appearance with a white head. A bit spicy, grassy, straw, somewhat sharp hoppy aroma. Fairly earthy/grassy hoppy, moderate hay, a bit spicy, somewhat snappy, sharp flavor. Almost a bit like a Bohemian Pils- the sharpness of the hops were nice but a touch Bohemian-like.

UPDATED: MAY 29, 2012 re-rate May 2012: husky, rough, mineral-heavy and gravel-like, dusty dry wall yeast powder and chalky hop bitterness.

lightly hazed golden body with a white head. snappy malt and zesty hops, more minerallic than green, greet the palate. chalky calcite water quality and smooth malt edges from the lager tank gave this one a good shot. it’s assertively bitter and noticeably over-hopped but still delicious.
