Draft @ Southern Sun, Winter 2010: Penetrable black. Broken, light-beige head. Uninspiring nose of shoe polish, overripe plums, black licorice, chocolate mousse, dark chocolate and mild smoke. Viscous body. Fuzzy carbonation. Tacky and yeasty body with chocolate taffy and a disharmonious mixture of medicine, overripe plums and and port-steeped raisins. Very flabby and with flimsy malt structure, sorely lacking snap. Faint tobacco exudes, though brightness is virtually nonexistent. Strong notes of molasses and doughy yeast pervade the beer. Terribly underattenuated. Closes bitterly plasticlike and medicinal, with alcohol stinging the palate amid the perceptible colalike sweetness. Sticky sugars further tarnish the flavor as they linger on the palate alongside an off-putting currant-tinged hop punch. A very sloppy version.

(draft at Trinity, sampled 3/3/10). Black color. Medium tan head which is lasting. Coffee/chocolate aroma. Flavor fo coffee, sweet chocolate, and a very light bitterness. Long duration. Smooth finish, with very light alcohol. Slick texture. Moderate carbonation. Good lacing.

Opaque black with lingering brown head. Muted aroma with some roast at the end. Slick viscosity on the mouthfeel and tast is full of alcohol. Dried raisin and current are present with smoked tar on the finish.

This is a solid safe imperial... Pitch black, tan head; sweet chocolate maltiness makes it easy drinking. Operative word here is sweet (by beer standards); sweet sugary nose, nice smooth black/choco malt goodness, slight cask like finish.

Tap at Vine Street - I normally don’t like imperial stouts that are this sweet, but this one has so many adjuncts in it, that it is a different animal entirely - extremely sweet, but the complex notes of raisin, prune, tamarind, and coconut make it seem perfectly fine - some cherry character adds additional depth, as well as some tartness an acidity to cut the sweetness - some cinnamon and other spice character make things even more interesting - a tiny bit cloying as it warms, but I really enjoyed this.

Draught. Black with small brown head. Aroma of sweet chocolate, booze, light roastedness. Taste is chocolate cake sweet with even sweeter caramel ending. Full bodied and overall a little too sweet.
