COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
his American Wheatwine is a deep garnet color and has the malt complexity of a barleywine but with more depth of flavor from the sweet dough character imparted by the use of 40% wheat malt. Hop notes of grapefruit and peach round out this rich nectar of the gods. Woden is a god of war and death, but also the god of poetry and wisdom. He himself consumes nothing but wine. Woden has only one eye, which blazes like the sun!!

On tap at Southern Sun. Cloudy amber brown with a thin tan head, good retention. Rich malty aroma with sugar and citrus. The malts balance out the hoppy alcoholic character, just like a well-done barley wine. Hints of banana, caramel, pine, and tangerine. Quite enjoyable.

At mtn sun. Pours a dark but relatively clear brown-red with a finger of reddish tan head. Settles completely in minutes with a little, very fine/thin lacing. Aroma is sweet, slightly fruity, alcoholic. Mild hoppiness up front, mildly resinous fades into moderate fruity tones, peaches and pears, with a bitter, malty, nutty finish, noticeable alcohol. Soft carbonation, medium body, and a smooth texture. Donít think Iíve ever had a wheatwine. The alcohol content and hoppiness remind me of a fresh barleywine but the wheat provides a pleasant sweetness and smoothness that really increase the drinkability. An interesting beer, strong sweet, fruity, with relatively good alcohol masking. Very pleasant. Hope to try more of this style. (reviewed 3/21/13)

opaque dull brown body with a small ring of carbonation. malt sugar focused nose with a lot of old, stale citrus fruit (bananas + grapefruit especially). full body with moderately high bitterness and high sweetness - I guess thatís what folks shoot for with barley wine. crunchy, goopy, sludgy malt body given the high amount of wheat; similar to the sludgy texture of most rye wine and wheat wine, so I guess they nailed that part. browned, old apple and caramel malt with strongly bitter american hops and a pasty, sludgy yeast character.

Tap. Snowing. Big thick wet flakes. Butthe beer. Hazed up reddish tan body. Lacing head that turns thin but never completely dissapates. Smells sweet like orange mrmalade and bubblegum. Taste is cotton candy but with a strong balancing bitterness. This has a warming effect without the alcohol bite. A very well done sweet hop balance. The bit of citrus nad small note of pine just add to the complexity. A great snow beer.
