Linus_Stick (1521), Moon Township, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 9, 2008 Thanks to Mr_Stitch for bringing this back. Aroma was pretty weak. All caramel malt and iced tea. Pour was a nice deep dark amber that looks brown until held up to the light. Taste was a little thin but it was all malt. Roasted and caramel malt with not much of an aftertaste. LIttle carbonation and no hops to balance it out but that’s what they were going for so they achieved it. theisti (1034), Leawood, Kansas, USA Jul 25, 2008 12 oz bottle given to me by Dansting. Pour is clear brown orange, with a one inch tan head. Aroma of caramel and nutty maltiness initially, then a pretty big dose of chemical sourness. The other beer (Lager) I had from this Brewery had a very similar smell. Perhaps the bottles were handled similarly? Taste has less of the chemical sour, though the caramel sweetness is also gone. All that is left is some of the nuttiness and a pretty watery palate. Better than the other for sure, but still not my cup of beer. Thanks for bringing this one back and sharing, Dan. decaturstevo (1192), decatur, Tennessee, USA May 17, 2008 A very malty aroma that reminds me of light brown sugar. A deep almost brown pour. Flavor is semi sweet maltiness with a tad of some kind of bitter finish. Just a bit foamy for me but not bad. I almost scored it a point higher on palate but couldn’t. Overall pretty decent drinker. It reminded me some of a brown ale. MtStateBeer (50), Hurricane, West Virginia, USA Mar 15, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours brown/red with little head. You can smell the malts right away. Gives a roasted/caramel/nutty aroma. Medium body, tasted sour, but still with a caramel/malty flavor. Overall a good beer. the_chandler (184), West Virginia, USA Feb 3, 2008 Updated: Jul 18, 2008Pours a deep rich brown with a thick head. Slight red tint, but mostly solid dark brown. Really nice looking. Aroma was sweet and malty. Flavor was VERY surprising. I don’t know why, but from a Red Ale, I didnt expect it to be so...flavorful at all. Very rich, sweet, malty, nutty. All the great attributes of a brown ale, but in what they label a Red Ale. Went down unbelievably smooth. This is very good. I’m becoming impressed with this Mountaineer Brewing Company, after only 2 beers.
