"Bjor Nagal" is Gaelic for "California Common". This lager is a reflection of the many dedicated hearts and minds needed to to brew a quality beverage. Moylan’s Bjor Nagal is made with Pilsner, Munich and Caramelized malts selected and roasted by Sabine and Thomas Kraus-Weyerman, owners of Weyerman Specialty Malt in Bamberg, Germany. Bittering hops (Spalter & Hallertauer Mittlefruh) were grown in the Hallertauer Region of Germany and sourced by Hops from England. Aromatic hops (Northern Brewer) were also grown in Germany and were sourced by the German Hop Growers Cooperative. We would like to thank Crosby and baker, Ltd. and the german Hop Growers Cooperative for providing the quality malts and hops for this commemorative lager.

"all these anchor clones popping up, and i like half of em better than anchor. anyway, this was a nice surprise. light and refreshing but still full flavored with a delicate balance of hop aroma and sweet malt. same in the flavor, with the malt being a touch more dominant. clean finish, but not lacking in complexity. brought home a fresh bottle..."

22oz bomber pours clear copper with tan head. The mild aroma offers up some floral hops, a bit of spicy hops and then faint maltiness. The taste begins with a good bit of floral to spicy hops that lean toward the bitter side and seem to grow into some sweet malts and the more and more malt sweetened floral notes midway and into the finish. This is a nice full flavored brew with a favorable hop profile for my taste even with the firm level of floral hops present.

Bottle at Bottlecraft SD. Pours with a hazed orange to amber hue with a lasting off-white head. Aromas are of tea and caramel, some bready and crystal malt notes. Light esters and apricot. Flavors of bready and a slightly rich malt profile, a bit of a caramel character, lightly floral and estery. Medium to lively bubbles and kind of dry. As it flaws MAJOR DMS shows and makes it hard to drink.

This poured a clear copper color with an off-white head that had big bubbles, great retention, and lots of lacing. Great start. The nose was caramel and fruit with lots of tantalizing aromas. Medium in body and with a very smooth and almost oily mouthfeel The flavor is rich with a good balance between malts and flavorful hops. A exceptionally tasty brew.

22 oz. bottle from Hayduke with whom it was shared via facebook chat. This poured a hazy tea colored beer that had a nice thick one finger head. That head never faded and left thick sticky lacing. The nose was earthy fruit, tangerine, and caramel. The flavor was very much like a Pale Ale. It had some nice hops that were pine and floral, caramel that became biscuits, and more yeast than I expected. This was proof that a lager can be flavorful. A very nice beer.

Bomber poured into a pint glass. Deep gold, verging on amber, with a puffy off-white canopy. Aroma is very strange and takes a couple whiffs before I even understand what’s happening. Smells like Fanta. Part the orange kind and part the strawberry kind. There are some tangy malt notes and a bit of crystal malt too. Flavor is thankfully not similar to any sugarbomb soda products. Kind of a spicy/toasted malt profile with mild esters up front and a mild herbal hoppiness in the finish. The bitterness is not so mild, in fact it’s rather prominent for the style. Prickly carbonation could stand to be a little lower. This is definitely more complex than everybody’s California Common benchmark Anchor Steam, but I think the esters and alcohol hurt the drinkability enough that I’d still prefer the Anchor. Solid beer in its own right.
