COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This strong Moylan's brew is what keeps those Irish eyes a smiling. Its deep amber radiance has been described by our brewer as the most visually enticing beer. This ale's rich malty flavor, full body, invigorating aroma, and expansive finish empower it to be extremely satisfying and repeatedly enjoyed. Great Western Two Row Pale Malt, De Wolf-Cosyns' Caravienne and Munich Malts are allied to provide the 1.070 beginning specific gravity, while Fuggle and Liberty hops balance this sweetness. A classic rich and malty ale from Ireland. Unlike most "want-to-be" red ales, Moylan's red has a rich caramel character balanced with a low hop profile.

Why does Moylan’s need to call this an Irish style red ale. I mean Moylan’s is Irish no? That’s like Budweiser calling bud light an American style shit beer. Duh! This is an amber brew, or red as the Irish style Irish call it. The head is weak. The aroma is sweet an grainy. The taste is like livestock feed, to get them to eat grain which is not part of their natural diet. I wouldn’t drink this under any circumstances, unless you’re in high school, and can’t buy beer yet,.. maybe.

On-tap in the Rogue Pub on Union St, San Fran: 3rd Feb 2013. Headless pour: red hue to the dirty orange/brown body. Malts rule the roost here: both in the nose and the mouth. The hops do balance it out nicely and give a slight bitter finish but overall the malts sweetness pushes the flavours towards caramel and toffee like tastes. I like the sweeter brews so this was fine in my eyes (apart from actually looking at it!).

Bottle. Cloudy amber colour. Not much head. The flavour is citric, seems to have a little citrus... Infection. Wet rag... Malty, but not so good.

Backlog rating 3-07-2009 (Bottle) This beer has a medium sized fizzy vanilla head with poor retention, transparent body, fizzy, fast-rising carbonation, one ring of lacing, and the hue of the body is orange. The aroma is that of malt, caramel, chocolate and sweet. Ditto for the taste along with it tasting roasty and it has a dry finish. The palate is smooth and this is a light-medium bodied beer. Overall, this beer is easy to drink, but it did not leave me wanting to possibly drink it again as the flavors just did not come together as they should have for the style.

A good Irish red. Pours a very nice cloudy orange with a light white head. Smells fruity. Taste is similar, very fruity with a sharp finish. Slightly weird aftertaste. Had in the bottle at Mark's Sports Bistro. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
