3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Appearance: velvety near black pour with a short tan head and average lace. Aroma: roasty, with licorice, chocolate, wet granite, hint of herb, vanilla, and cream. Taste: dark chocolate, molasses, soy sauce, vanilla pudding, with a bit of talc. Finish: dry and smooth, with lingering roasty notes. Notes: For a 5% stout, this was a nice mix of drinkable and rich. Not bad at all.

On draft at Rattle’n’Hum. A nice light stout. Flavors of coffee, caramel, a little sea salt and sulfur. There is even some noticeable barley malt (what a shocker, eh?).

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber from Woodmans in Waukesha. Pours an opaque black with a thin brownish head leaving almost no lace. Aroma has chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is of light chocolate, some caramel and faint fruit. Light to medium bodied. Lowly carbonated and very dry. Thins out as it warms. Finishes bittersweet and quickly. Shrug? Old bottle? It was bone dry and thin without a significant flavor palate. Inoffensive but disappointing.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Moylans Dragoons Dry Irish Stout has a thick, creamy tan head and a dark brown, almost black appearance, with lots of bubbles clinging to the sides and a fairly thick lacing sheen left on the glass. The aroma is of bitter coffee, dark malts, acidity, and some burnt properties. Flavor is of dark-roasted, somewhat burnt malt, acidity, black bread, and maybe cocoa powder. There really isn’t much bitterness, here. Mouthfeel is light and prickly, and Moylans Dragoons Dry Irish Stout finishes dry, astringent, sweet, and easy drinking. Overall, this is most excellent, and I recommend it! RJT
