I was actually very pleased with this. Very easy to drink with good flavors. Pitch black with thick, dark tan head. Aroma full of oatmeal, roasted barley, a small bit of chocolate, and the fresh, clean, almost piney aroma typical of dry stouts. Flavor was same, but with more roasted barley. Very clean finish with no bitter aftertaste. Such an easy drink. Quite tasty.

22 oz. bottle from BevMo (Tucson) - Pours a clear brown color with a one and a half finger thick tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is toasted caramel malt and a touch of smokiness. Flavor is toasted caramel, lightly smoked, and faint chocolate malt with a touch of coffee in there. Palate is slightly dry. Medium body. Quite nice to drink.

So this beer fell short of Ryan O’ Sullivan’s Imp Stout...although still enjoyable. Brown bordering black with a creamy latte colored head. The nose displays roasted coffee, toasted nuts, and semi-sweet chocolate. There is definitely a lactic quality here. Sweeter than I would have liked but tasty.

UPDATED: AUG 14, 2009 Bottle… Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, beigei head. Fantastic retention. The nose is of espresso, nuts and chocolate with a rumor of smoke. Medium to full-bodied and astringent with dancing carbonation. Moderately sweet and equally bitter. Mocha, charcoal and toasted nuts. Crisp, charred, bone-dry finish. Bottle courtesy of mgumby10!

Pours a deep, blackish-brown. Aroma is a touch muted, with the roasted notes being slightly subdued. Some hints of cocoa and even lightly roasted coffee. Flavor is solid, with a creamy flavor, redolent of cafe au lait, coming through nicely.

Pours black, with a small light brown head. Smells of some roasty malt, light bitter chocolate, and subtle hops. Really quite an easy drinking dry stout. The mild vanilla and chocolate flavors blend icely with the hops and light roasty characters. Kindo f went down smooth as silk, with some nice flavor backing up the creamy mouthfeel. Nice drinking stout.

Pour is a nice deep almost black dark brown. The head is small, and deep tan. The aroma is dominated by the sweet roasty malts. There are a lot of flavors in this beer. The hops are fairly quite, the flavor is very chocolate/coffee with nice nutty overtones. The roasted malts are not too strong, and give a nice splash of sweetness. The finish is not crisp, but does not linger too long. The body over all I would describe as medium bodied. A very enjoyable stout.

Bottle. Poured a large tan head that mostly diminished, fair amount of lacing, very little carbonation on the sides of the glass, opaque, and a dark brown/black hue with a slight red tint. The aroma was malt, roasty, coffee, chocolate, and hops. Ditto for the flavor along with some light bitterness. The mouthfeel was smooth and the beer is light-medium bodied. A very quaffable beer for the style, easy to drink, balanced, worthy of a try, and a beer that I would drink again. Nicely done by the people at Moylans!

22oz. Bottle: Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, and cream. Poured black in color with a small, dense, brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Opaque. Lightly sweet, lightly bitter flavor. Tastes of roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate. Medium body. Smooth, creamy texture. Average carbonation. Bittersweet chocolate and malt finish is not dry. Why is this a dry stout?
