3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 FlacoAlto (3155) - Tucson, USA - FEB 21, 2010
Sampled at 1702, Tucson December 2009
This beer arrives from that tap a brilliantly clear, full gold to light copper color. The head is creamy textured, a pale tan color and a half-finger thick. The aroma has a herbal sort of grassy note to it as well as a pine needle scent up front. Behind this are notes of citrus, lychee, bergamot, grapefruit and floral apricot and tropical fruit hop notes. There is a clean, cracked malt aroma that is just noticeable underneath the ample hop onslaught.
This is very herbal tasting and bitter, but there is a substantial citrus hop bite here as well that helps to keep this “hop-balanced”. This is well carbonated, especially for a draft offering, it is quit prickly, but has a fullness to it that helps to carry the ample hop character; ultimately it is quite quaffable though. Other hop flavors of tropical fruit evoke thoughts of lychee, floral peach and orange blossoms. Bitter and herbal notes definitely dominate, but I really like the ample (though quite smooth) fruitiness that the hops provide too.
This is a really nice hop harvest beer. It has great, aggressive hop levels to it without being overly harsh. I could definitely drink a lot of this beer.

Cask at Moylan’s. Medium amber orange with a one finger off-white creamy head, cask retention. Plenty of bright citrus hops before the head faded, then harder to nose--then it turned more orangey with some herbal dry hops. Flavor follows suit with plenty of orangey citrus dry hopped herbalness, hints of pine behind. The sweet caramel malt plays with the orange well, though I could almost see it being too much due to not a ton of buffering hops. Bitterness peaked at a 3 in the finish, lightly piney. Light to medium body with cask carbonation. Pretty good.
