Served up at the recent Moylan’s release at the Brick Store Pub in Decatur, Georgia. Appearance: Dark amber body showing nice clarity and layered with a wispy, off-white head. Smell: Pleasingly fragrant, slightly sweet-scented hop aroma conveys large, deep notes of pine, citrus fruit, and flowers. Distant, lesser notes of malt as well. Taste: Pale malts with a supposed crystal malt sweetness deliver an impression of caramel candy. A sharp, aggressive taste of pine resin, lemon wedges, and white grapefruit bears down on the tongue and unleashes a substantial amount of hop bitterness. The latter half is marked by a now continuous stream of hop bitterness, more caustic pith qualities, and some warming alcohol heat. Some hints of orange blossom develop late. Finishes expectantly dry with a long, bristling bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Lusciously smooth, downright creamy mouthfeel. Drinkability: A pungent, intense brew, but a good one. If you’re in the market for a mouth crammed full of hops then give this beer a try.

Tap at the brewery. Liquid gold in the glass. White head, good lacing. Floral hop nose. Good balance of malt and hops.

22 oz. bottle from Grape & Gourmet. Dark orange pour with a thin white head. Aroma of hops, hops, and more hops. Holy crap, this is hoppy! Taste is pure bitter grapefruit and pine. This is the hoppiest beer (that was any good) I have ever tried. Not even close to being balanced. It’s great if you can handle it.

Holy crap this was hoppy. Probably the hoppiest thing I’ve ever had except Red’s Rye. The hops tasted very oily, but it an acidic bitter sort of way that was just bludgeoning. A good sort of bludgeoning. Somewhat sweet and the sweetness had a nice balance with the hops. Lots of citrus, some floral, some pine. Great IPA, but so overpriced I doubt I’ll buy it again.

Bottle, with Alaskanwarren. Copper, off-white foam. Pungent intense aroma, as if this were some kind of house scent, not something to drink. Balsam, cinnamon, peppermint, menthol, radiating out of the glass in waves. Raspberry and quinine flavor, oily and medicinal. Concentrated in a way that makes me question if this was intended to be drunk straight up, or if a 50/50 blend with club soda would be more appropriate. A massive and excessive beer, but still very pretty in its own way, and clearly brewed with skill. Compared to a lot of the IIPAs I’ve tried recently, the hop character is very smooth and natural tasting. (So many IIPAs end up having that icky raw hop pellet flavor.) So as an experiment in how much hop juice you can cram into a beer, I totally dig this. Memorably intense. But as a beer I’d want again...not sure. A 4 oz glass of this would be plenty. (Unless I can spash some soda in there.)
