BigBeer45 (489), Troy, Michigan, USA Jul 18, 2008 Bomber bottle, pours a hazy orange red with effervescence everywhere, produced a nice white bubbled head that placed a generous amount of foamy lacing on the glass, I saw no sediment in the bottle, aroma of sweet malt and hops when the bottle was opened, lots of pale malt sweetness on the nose with hop fragrance of pine needles and citrus, some caramel, orange and lemon fruit aromas, no alcohol aroma yet, faint caramel, taste of malt sweetness that hangs a bit and then the hops kick in, has caramel flavors along with some other malt flavor, herb and floral hop fragrance, I felt a bit of alcohol warmth on the palate but not enough to distract from enjoying the drink, a touch more then medium mouth feel, has some warmth on the palate, alcohol is hidden pretty well for a 9.2% ale, a nice, hoppy, malty ale, I think the malt flavor goes along well with the hops for a tasty IPA2, I recommend to this ale.
Moosington (15), Costa Mesa, California, USA Oct 11, 2008 Bottle from Hollingshead. Pours a very rich, copper/orange. Nose is sticky hop, pineapple and grapefruit. Pineapple and a tad of malt and caramel flavor at the onset, which is quickly overtaken by hop and grapefruit bitterness. Very nice mouthfeel with a perfect amount of stickiness. Excellent Imperial IPA. PhillyBeer2112 (1861), Orange Park, Florida, USA Oct 9, 2008 Big resiny hop nose. A little body odor. Malts are hard to come by - a little sugar caramel. Sugary flavors with resiny hops. Long resiny bitter finish. Very bitter. Copper color. LilBeerDoctor (642), East Setauket, New York, USA Oct 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear light orange with a small white, foamy head. Aroma of bitter grassy, garlicy hops and bitter grapefruit. Flavor is super bitter and a little too bitter for my tastes (even as a hop lover). The hop profile is a little off too. Not a fan of this one. fredandboboflo (633), East Setauket, New York, USA Oct 7, 2008 Updated: Oct 8, 2008Bottle. Wow. Bottled grapefruit. Dead on grapefruit bitterness. Having a beer like this makes me realize how often I too loosely use grapefruit as a descriptor. This is the real deal. I’m sort of indifferent to grapefruit as a fruit, but here in beer form it tastes luscious to me. Quite a fluffy mouthfeel for a massive 9.2% IPA. And that’s all I got. SuperDave70 (832), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Sep 27, 2008 Pours a nice cloudy copper color with a creamy, glass-sticking head. Big pine and grapefruit hop aroma, with a touch of toasty caramel malt fighting through at times. Flavor follows the aroma, huge bitter grapefruit and pine flavors don’t even try to be balanced by the slightly sweet malt undertones. Thick and lingering on the palate, with a big bitter finish. Seriously tasty!
