k4df4l (144), DTown, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 29, 2008 22 oz Bottle pours a hazy orange with a compact white head. Aroma is bracing..powerful citrus, pine and resinous hops and alcohol with a faint bit of malt. Flavor is initially over the top bitter and rough with plenty of lemon peel, grapefruit, spice, booze and distinct rocky bitter hop aftertaste. As the glass warms and your palate acclimates to the bitterness, there is a nice soft caramel malt sweetness w/ light bread to offset some of the bitterness & alcohol flavors.
LilBeerDoctor (627), East Setauket, New York, USA Oct 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear light orange with a small white, foamy head. Aroma of bitter grassy, garlicy hops and bitter grapefruit. Flavor is super bitter and a little too bitter for my tastes (even as a hop lover). The hop profile is a little off too. Not a fan of this one. fredandboboflo (619), East Setauket, New York, USA Oct 7, 2008 Bottle. Wow. Bottled grapefruit. Dead on grapefruit bitterness. Having a beer like this makes me realize how often I too loosely use grapefruit as a descriptor. This is the real deal. I’m sort of indifferent to grapefruit as a fruit, but in beer form it tastes magical to me. And what an unbelievably airy, fluffy mouthfeel for a massive 9.2% IPA. And that’s all I got. SuperDave70 (822), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Sep 27, 2008 Pours a nice cloudy copper color with a creamy, glass-sticking head. Big pine and grapefruit hop aroma, with a touch of toasty caramel malt fighting through at times. Flavor follows the aroma, huge bitter grapefruit and pine flavors don’t even try to be balanced by the slightly sweet malt undertones. Thick and lingering on the palate, with a big bitter finish. Seriously tasty! lordeche (335), Bridgewater, Massachusetts, USA Sep 25, 2008 Pours a beautiful hazy copper color with thick white head. Aroma is a great combination of citrus hops and caramel malts- almost a tropical fruit note with a combination of pineapple and toasted coconut. Flavor consists of tart citrus up front, herbal notes, some residual sugars, caramel, and toasted malts. Palate isn’t too sticky, either. Very nice. WisconsinBeer (343), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Sep 24, 2008 Bottle. Hazy yellow orange color, minimal wispy head. Sweet undertones to begin, followed by a mellow crisp granulated sugar middle. Finish is hops and hops, hard to pinpoint the variety, but delicious nonetheless. Lingering pepper, pine, grapefruit, a bit of grassiness. Medium bodied. The thing I can appreciate about this is that it isn’t overly thick and syrupy like some IPA beers. Nicely done.
