3.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
So here’s the question...Next time I’m in the mood for a beer like this should I...
A: Grab a Moylans Imperial IPA
B: Get a three foot water pipe, an ounce of Tomahawk hops, and a few sticks of coconut incense...
Whew....I don’t say this very often, but I’m glad I split this 22oz hoptacular oral chainsaw of a beer with a fellow beer bro. Poured into a large snifter so as to harness the incredible aromas of pine & floral hops. Close your eyes, and bury your nose into the glass to get close to the substantial, creamy white head of this dark orange/yellow offering. It’s not hard to imagine standing in the middle of the evergreen filled High Sierras after a light rain, a nose truly worthy of a "5/exceptional" score if there ever was one. The taste...well, a bit of sweet pale malt, umm a touch of citrus, and....oh ya, an insane (borderline obnoxious) amount of Tomahawk, Cascade, and Centennial hops, that unceremoniously rip through your taste buds, leaving you thirstier than when you started. It’s sort of like getting hit in the mouth by a moist pine cone, but in a good way. I have to say though, I’m glad to have experienced this “extreme” beer, and would (in small quantities) like to have it on occasion. If anything, I’d just like to smell it again. This beer goes well with nothing……NOTHING I say. If after a few sips, the beer you are drinking can turn an aged, four year old white Canadian Cheddar into Velveeta, you know you are dealing with some serious ale….Good luck.…Enjoy

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
From bottle. Nice, aggressive nose, pretty burnt orange. Not bad, but far too malty and sticky for me.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750 ml bottle. Deep golden and slightly hazy. Bold hoppy aroma. Also a little ashy and sharp, which I think is because the botle is not particularly fresh. Sharp hoppy bitterness. Quite high IBU level in this one. Body is relatively light given the hops, so this beer comes off as a bitter bomb. Not a bad one though, but a little too sharp for my taste.

3.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draught at Pizzeria Paradiso. Clear golden with a medium white head, little lacing. Amazing aroma of freshly mowed grass and hay. Taste hits you over the head with large amounts of hoppy bitterness, too over the top for my taste. Decent bitter finish.

Pours a golden amber with a white head. Hop, citrus, caramel, floral and malt aroma. Big hop, grapefruit, mango, resin, floral, caramel, malt and slight alcohol flavors. Very bitter and a medium body with average carbonation. Hop and floral finish with some alcohol warmth.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Transfer from BA review on 8-13-12 -
Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – The beer is served a lightly hazed copper color with a nice one finger white head. The head has great retention, but eventually fades slowly over time to give a wonderful level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is quite hoppy. The strongest is of a grapefruit hop, but other aromas of pine and an earthy nature are mixed in as well. Complementing the hop aroma is a nice sweet caramel smell that helps to balance the hop.
Taste – The taste begins with a slightly sweeter caramel malt and bready base. Mixed with this is a pine hop flavor that tingles the tongue. As the taste advances the bready flavor remains while some of the sweetness is lost once a good wallop of a bitter citrus hop comes to the tongue in the middle of the taste. More toward the end a little bit of booziness comes to the tongue where when mixed with the bitter hop and bready malt leaves a somewhat burring bitter on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and creamier side while the carbonation is a touch below average. Both are great for the hoppy flavor profile and allow the tastes to really permeate the tongue.
Overall – A tasty double with a slightly sweeter start and more bitter finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft. Nose is an inviting lemon/citrus aroma, very strong, with just a light bit of hay. Pour is cloudy orange with a large off white head. Gets tropical as it sits. Taste is initially bitter, lightly pithy, with a thin malt presence. Taste reveals a little grapefruit and orange but the focus here is bitterness. No alcohol presence initially but warns the ears after a few sips. Pretty nice.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
From a bomber bottle. Pours an orange-gold, making a medium white head. Aroma is of big hops and apricot and orange citrus. Tastes of dry, dry hops. Quite bitter. Reminds me if Victory's Hop Devil. From nose to palate, this beer attacks the senses.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap in HoS Durham, poured nice apricot colour, thick creamy head. The aroma is absolutely outstanding, there’s like every goodie in the nose. Sweet fruits, jar of marmalade with nicely balanced hoppes. Taste is quite intensive, though very enjoyable, this satisfying bitternes and so well balanced body. Great imperial ipa! Love it!
