Commercial Description:
Our version of the IPA beer style possesses a deep golden hue, rich malty flavor, a bold, complex, and enduring hop finish and is extremely full bodied. We dry hop this brew and use a combination of Fuggles and Chinook hop varieties resulting in an extremely enticing floral and spicy aroma as well as hop character. Great Western Two Row Pale Malt, De Wolf-Cosyns' Caravienne and Munich Malts are combined to achieve an initial specific gravity approaching 1.065.

Color was a cloudy off orange to amber hue. Massive head retention oand excellent lace. The smell is strong on citrus, mostly of grapefruit and citrus but some pine and light malt is noticeable as well. The taste is all hops. A good mix of bittering and aroma hops with both citrus and earthy tones. Makes me think of more English style then California. The malt is very smooth with a good mix of Munich and Vienna. Both malt and hops are equally supported and well balanced. Not really any stronger alcohol flavor which is nice. Good body and a good brew for an IPA.

pours a somewhat cloudy gold with a 11/2 finger fluffy off white head. aroma is nice hops and some malt with orange peel and pine. has a medium body with good lacing and descent carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma but stronger and has some grapefruit. has some sediment floating around and there is a nice dry hop aftertaste. the pine hops just sit on the tongue for a while after really coming on in the end. not potent in the aroma but the flavor and aftertaste is really nice. the second glass gives a little more aroma with a bit of floral as well as the flavor. it is still a little flat on the palate but oily and resinous at the same time. it is more of a hop bomb than a balanced ipa but to me it is still pretty nice. for the price at $3.99 a bomber it is unreal!

22 oz bottle. Copper pour. Aroma is pine and citrus (nice grapefruit). The flavor is hoppy, and refreshing when consumed. The beer finishes quite well. A very solid IPA.

Copper-amber with a glow to it. Soapy head with some pretty good lacing. Aromas of pine resin, wildflowers, and grapefruit. Big hoppy bite is clean and nice, some detergenty bitterness. Mostly, though, the hop bitterness jst resonates in that low, spicy, bitter register. Great length of bitterness on the finish, with a medium to light weight on the tongue. An all-out IPA.

22oz Bomber $3.79 Binny’s Oland Moylans just recently started distributing to Illinois and although I’ve seen the Hopsickle around this is the first time I’ve spotted the IPA. Pours a suprisingly bright golden with a moderate haze. A few streams of large carbonation bubbles crawl to the dense rocky white head. This beer leaves some respectable sheet lacing down the glass after each drink. I’ve sampled the Moylander IIPA a few times in the past and one of the things I loved was the huge hop resins in both the aroma and flavor. Their IPA sports those same great resins that make my mouth water. While the resins are there, there’s also a big healthy dose of white grapefruit (unsweetened of course). All this over the top of some ultra pale cake like malts. My nose tells me this is going to be a bitter IPA. This is my style of IPA big hoppiness with a tongue stomping bitterness. Luckily there’s not a lot of that pesky malt to get in the way. There’s enough cake like maltiness to let you know it’s there but it’s quickly brushed aside for the sake of hoppy goodness. Again that resinous leathery hoppiness comes through and takes thing over before being accompanied by bitter grapefruit. The bitterness grows from mid-palate throughout the swallow. This IPA has a medium body with just the right amount of carbonation to keep things moving. Prickly carbonation combines with a slick body to compliment the body nicely. A bomber of this is a pure pleasure to drink. Another bomber would be even better. My only reservation is the big hoppiness stomping on my tongue and not letting me fully enjoy another bomber the way I should. This turned out to be another great IPA from Moylans. I’m ecstatic to be able to get the Moylander, Hopsickle, and the IPA here in Illinois. A bomber of this for $3.79 is a bargain hard to beat these days in Chicagoland. 1/26/07
