COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our version of the IPA beer style possesses a deep golden hue, rich malty flavor, a bold, complex, and enduring hop finish and is extremely full bodied. We dry hop this brew and use a combination of Fuggles and Chinook hop varieties resulting in an extremely enticing floral and spicy aroma as well as hop character. Great Western Two Row Pale Malt, De Wolf-Cosyns' Caravienne and Munich Malts are combined to achieve an initial specific gravity approaching 1.065.

Has all the makings of an IPA but just doesn’t do enough. There’s a little citrus in the nose but it’s more of a sweet fruitiness with spicy tones. Hoppy bitterness, especially in the finish but just not quite strong enough in flavor. As a result the alcohol comes through a little more noticeably than it should. Worthwhile but unspectacular.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2003 OK, the aroma itself says it all 'THIS IS NOT AN IPA'..I can't even smell any hops, its a sweet-like and malty aroma, poured amber with a tan head, ha, this is mislabeled, it tastes like a carmel apple you'd get at the fair, Super Malty, but oh, the hops finally show up in the finish, but barely...REPEAT, NOT AN IPA, not a wholey bad beer, actually pretty tasty but definitely not an IPA. Dissappointing because I was in the mood for an IPA too.

Poured a nice amber color, with a creamy head that lasted fairly well. Almost lacking in the kind of hop aroma that I’m used to in an IPA...not a trace of the flowery hop smell that marks a good NW style IPA. The flavor was also lacking, far too malty and so little of the nice bitter flavor. Overall disappointing.....I’ll have to try the Double IPA to see if thats better.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2007 (12/15/07, 22oz bottle, thanks peregrinari) Lightly hazed light amber body topped by medium white head. Aroma is medium sweet, grapefruit/pine, light caramel. Taste is medium sweet, sharp grapefruit/pine, light pineapple. Somewhat dry finish. Medium body, chewy, light acidity. (7/4/7/4/14)

(8/13/02) Light copper body that pours with a beautiful head. Smell is citric hops, but also pretty sweet malt. Flavor is loaded with hops and malt, some spiciness to boot. Like many of the Moylan beers, it subscribes to the "more is better" mentality, resulting in a beer that’s not bad, but simply tries to do too much. (6/5/6/3/13)

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2004 Lackluster. Gravity and malts are in place. The problem is that the hops are low. An IPA for those who do not like hops.

Agree with the earlier reviewer that it doesn’t taste much like a typical IPA, but still pretty good. More malty-sweet than hoppy, but still some decent balance. Don’t get the bitters that much, but has a nice, full texture to it.

Novato, CA, tap. Full head with some indistinguishable hoppy aroma. A bit sweet for an IPA. Full bitterness, smooth mouth feel. Is this an IPA?
