drjay44 (758), Salida, Colorado, USA Jul 8, 2009 22 oz. bottle. Pours a short lived head, over a clear, golden (SRM 15) body....nose is pine, resin, grapefruit, mild toffee.......taste is initially mild malts and then in comes the hop bomb with pine and grapefruit dominating, long lingering bitterness....mouth feel is medium as is carbonation. I did not get the floral mentioned in the commercial discription. This is a fairly average IPA in the American style, except bitterness dominate a little too much. lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jul 8, 2009 Noogfest High 5. Sample from a bottle thanks to someone. Golden yellow, thin white head. Aroma of pine and light wood, spicy hops, caramel. Taste is spicy, pine hops, caramel, toasted malt. Dmalone102 (216), Denver, Colorado, USA Jul 7, 2009 I’ve only had a few offerings from Moylans, but I’d have to say, they seem pretty decent.
From a bottle.
Aroma- Floral hoppy smell, like roses. Hop aroma also includes pine. The hops are very potent in the aroma.
Appearance- Strong, off-white head, great clarity. Copper in color, very good head retention.
Taste- Strong bitterness, moderately low malt flavor, reiny, low fruity esters.
Palate- Light in body, A little more body would make the bitterness easier to drink. There is some dryness from the bittering hops, but nowhere else.
Overall- This would be a nice IPA with some malt backbone to balance.
MrRoss (614), Delta, British Columbia, Canada Jul 7, 2009 From Firefly. $7 was a bit much for this one, but whatever, I needed a new IPA. Poured the mandatory cloudy copper body underneath a smallish ivory head. Aroma was mostly hops, along with some pleasing grassy notes. Flavour was pure hop, along with a good bite to the mouth. The finish suggested at more malt sweetness than I’d expected. gnoff (3560), Göteborg, Sweden Jul 5, 2009 Drau´ght at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. On July 5, 2009 Cloudy yellow color, huge fluffy creamy off-white head. Bitter, hoppy, fruity, fresh, alcohol taste. Fruity, bitter, hoppy scent, some burnt wood. Medium smooth mouthfeel, medium high fruity bitterness. beerfest5 (128), Simsbury, Connecticut, USA Jun 30, 2009 I have a thing for Cali IPA’s, and this is no exception, very tasty, very piney and citrusy, not too malty, gonna try the hopsickle next time. ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jun 23, 2009 Appearance: Pours out a clear, golden-orange body with a well-sized, darn right frothy white head.
Smell: Sweetish, fruity scent with a favorable blend of malts and hops -- light, sweet-scented caramel candy, tangerine oils, apricots, grapefruit peels, and plucked pine needles.
Taste: Pleasant pale malts with a modest amount of crystal and light caramel malt sweetness showing. Small pinch of day-old biscuit crumbs. Splash of apricot juice. Graciously hoppy with flavors of fresh tangerines, pine resin, and white grapefruit pith, all with a punchy herbaceous, grassy quality. Fairly bold bitterness with those AA’s coming across a bit bristly and having an altogether long duration. The finishes is bone dry and longly bitter.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium, though fairly soft carbonation.
Drinkability: A still relatively easy-drinking India Pale Ale with a bold, assertive bitterness that isn’t so biting or intense that I can’t cheerfully polish off the entire bomber at two in the morning. Pawola22 (676), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Jun 19, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours a crystal clear, orange body with a thick and dense, finger-width, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves lots of heavy lacing. Aroma is big on the pine and sweet, herbal citrus. Lots of malts, including sweet caramels and a bit of toasted toffee. Really nice and flowery with lots of orange and pineapple. Flavor is quite nice. A lot deeper than the aroma leads it to be. Big caramels and toasted toffees up front with lots of pine. Some more toasty toffees and deep pine with lots of heavy orange/pineapple/grapefruit/peachy melon and a bit of licorice flavor. Finishes dry with deep pines, somewhat sweet malts and pleny of herbal, earthy fruits. Palate is full bodied and smooth while maintaining a perfect balance. Overall, this is an IPA! Lots of intense flavors while maintaining a very nice malt balance. Very, very impressive! Mmmmm....
