mephisto (1083), Taiwan Feb 7, 2008 cloudy golden with a thin layer of white foam, the sweet floral aroma is invitingly simple and the flavor is straight-forward too. finishes rather bitter, this is a very enjoyable ipa.
lebshiff21 (16), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 12, 2008 Good, thick, hoppy IPA.
Flowery nose, hazy amber hue. Lots of hops throughout, spicy, floral and tastes almost stronger than 6.5%. pforei (317), USA Jul 6, 2008 Bottle from Foodery. Clover honey amber color with good head. Pacific Northwest hops. Citrusy, resiny, piney, and bitter with a chewy, thick caramel/bready malt undertoe. Very bitter and sweet. Not as impressed by the west coast IPA’s as I used to be. blutt59 (519), Dallas, Texas, USA Jul 2, 2008 bottle, burnt orange color, very good fruity nose with strong white head, flavor is all IPA with lots of grapefruit and a little spicy, not too bitter very good on the finish twitcher (121), framingham, Massachusetts, USA Jul 1, 2008 bottle. Very nice looking pour- bright golden amber color, big creamy head that sticks around for a good long time, never fully clearing. Aromas of pine needles, earthy floral notes, and a creamy sweetness. Flavors start with a sharp, dry bitterness. Very chalky, acrid tobacco-ish hop character. Thick, bready sweetness. Not so well done on the combinations- the hop character is too sharp and chalky, the malt is a bit too sticky sweet. Those issues come through in the palate- oily and thick. Not an especially well-done IPA. dkachur (641), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jun 25, 2008 Review from cvillebeergeek.blogspot.com.
Appearance: Honey colored pour with a large foamy head. Head retention is moderate and leaves a nice web of lacing behind. 4.0/5.0
Aroma: Major floral hop aroma here with a honey-like sweetness behind it. Subtle grain, vegetal and metallic notes. There is a sweetness that goes a little too far. 3.5.5.0
Taste: Wow. Not what I was expecting at all. Very bitter and dry. Hops are very assertive and have a grassy, grapefruit taste. And that would be a grapefruit with no sugar. Very subtle caramel malt taste. Metallic and pine notes show up here and there. This indeed be a hop bomb. 3.5/5.0
Mouthfeel: Prickly feel. The label claims this is extremely full bodied, which it’s not. It does have some thick, sticky qualities, but also comes across as little thin on the back end. 3.5/5.0
Drinkability: This is a beer for a narrow audience. If you’re into the maltier/sweeter IPAs, this one will disappoint. But, if you don’t mind a very bitter, very dry beer, this might hit the spot. The dryness doesn’t lend to a very refreshing feel. A fairly moderate 6.5% abv. 2.5/5.0
Overall: Well, it’s a good beer, but it will alienate some people. The hop profile isn’t bad, but it could use a little more malt backbone to balance. 3.25/5.0
