3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured all thick, chunky, gloppy head, off white, and took quite some time to resolve. When it did, the ale was an attractive semi-transpapent amber. Lacing was more a pasty coating on the glass -- good coverage but hardly elegant. Aromas were grapefruit, orange, pineapple, spring meadow, and straw. Flavor was malty, earthy and smokey but with a huge hop bitterness. The combination of American and European malts was intriguing but the combination of an aromatic hop with a dual purpose one was, oddly, much stronger in the taste than the aroma, leaving me to believe the mix was mostly Chinook. Nonetheless, the taste is pleasantly bitter, fairly complex, balanced, and full. Mouthfeel was good and appropriate for an IPA.

Bottled. Pours slightly hazy, amber with a medium sized, lacing off-white head. Aroma of citrus, lemon peel, pine and caramel. Slightly sweet flavor that ends up dry and nice bitter. Medium bodied, oily text and soft carb. A nice and crisp IPA.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours hazy gold with a nice cloudy head that wants to stick around. Aroma is resiny, peppery, herbal hops mixed with an underlying caramel maltiness. An extremely well balanced IPA, considering it’s from Cali. Sweet caramel malt balanced by herbal, slightly piny hops. Glad not everyone agrees with the West Coast ideal of bitter hopping the f*#k out of an IPA. Medium body with a lingering caramel and herbal hop finish. My kinda IPA!
