On tap at Rogue Public House, SF. Dark reddish brown colour with a short light brown head. Complex and evolving taste led by chocolate into notes of plum and anise. A faint smokiness lurks at the edges. Different to the other beers of this style I’ve had, but in a good way. Enjoyed it.

Great burgundy color with not a lot of aroma. Very tasty though - lots of bready and nutty malts. Slight fruitiness from the minimal hops. Quite sweet on the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

$5.29 Bomber Bottle from Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Pours brown, small off-white head. Smells of toffee, raisins, caramel. Tastes of strong caramel, some funk, and has a light sourness. Unmemorable.

Pours Ceylon tea color, nice head and lasting lace, malt-forward on the nose and palate, subtle hops and dried apricot fruit leather on the middle palate, but lacks depth of flavor - like Oskar Blues Scotch Ale has - and finishes a little dry. A nice beer but room for improvement.

Pours a dark amber with very little head. Aroma is malty and slightly fruity. Taste is malty with some smokiness and roast flavors as well. I didn’t really enjoy the taste of this as much as I thought I would, too much smokiness and roasted flavor for me.

Pours a beautiful reddish-golden brown with an off-white head. Light, malty aromas with hints of currant. Flavor starts like a rich barleywine and ends with a smooth nuttiness.

Dark amber with a creamy head, nice lacing. Aroma is malt and carmel, a bit nutty. Flavor is generally sweet, bready, with lots of caramel, a bit of alcohol warmth and hop bite at the end. Good version of the style.

Bottle, 22oz. A clear, dark amber beer with a dense, light beige head that lasts. There’s something almost dms-like in the aroma, with caramel, a faint roasted hint and some dried fruit, prunes mostly. There’s a little alcohol warmth in the mouth, it’s smooth on the palate and full bodied, with flavors of prunes, caramel and a faint bitterness. Rather sweet, with some puke like hints. Not sure about this one, but it certainly didn’t impress. 130813

Bottle. Press brown with an off wrote head. Aroma of malt, caramel, nuts and fruitiness. Flavor is sweet and malty with some caramel, grains, fruitiness, brown sugar and hay. Medium body, average carbonation.
