3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
The beer dispenses from the 22-ounce brown bottle a clear mahogany color with the head portly in size and a semi-creamy light tan, the residual lace a thin curtain to drape the glass. Nose has a hint of hops, sweet malt dominates with some fresh clean caramel tones also noticed, the start is rich in malt and sweet with the top moderate to almost full in its feel to the palate. Finish is benign in carbonation and the hops superbly spicy with the aftertaste dry and long lasting, a fine beer from a great brewery.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: APR 8, 2008 Pours a very deep brown/amber color. Strong scotch like aroma. I could smell this stuff from over a foot away. Smooth. Roasty/nutty flavors right of the bat. Spicy alcohol finish. Malty as well. Quite sweet.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark mahogney color with a dense creamy head. Malty aroma with hints of smoke and leather. Lightly smokey malt flavor with some earhty notes and a slight nuttiness int he finish. Fairly well crafted, but scotch ales aren’t really my thing.

2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Creamy off-white head, later soapy, diminishing. Smell: caramel popcorn-molasses, plums and figs, light floral honeysuckle, and some alcohol. Great copper color and good clarity. Retronasally....spice? Flavor one dimensional--eggs?? in middle, green beans at end--are these yeast flavors? Wierd, wierd, wierd. Finish semi-dry and clean, aftertaste of green beans. Thanks, wunder!

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
22 oz bottle, tulip glass. Average sized, creamy, off-white, lasting head is on a cloudy, red-brown body. Molasses and caramel malt (M); light alcohol, plume, prune, raspberry, honey aromas. Heavily sweet flavor becomes a moderately sweet finish. Medium-full body, watery/oily texture, soft carbonation, slightly alcoholic. The bottom line is: weird "protien" taste at the end...eggs? green beans? some sweet tea too?

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Musty, damp malt, slightly pungnet aroma that pours out dark brown/orange. Small head with strong oily lacing. Flavor is complex, maybe too complex. I don’t know if I am just not used to this brew style or I just don’t like this beer. Certainly not the best offering from Moylans.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice aroma, somewhat sweet. Very little head, low carbonation, which fits the style. Deep reddish brown with a coppery tint. Full bodied, somewhat sweet, very lightly hopped, just enough to mask some of the alcohol. Slight esther/phenolic flavor at the finish. Overall, a nice take on a traditional Scotch Strong Ale
