Dark red/brown, slightly hazy, medium head that disappeared, good lacing though. Aroma was smokey sweet. This had to warm up quite a bit first few sips were watery. There's a nice hint of chocolate and nuts hidden at the end of the sweet malt. Minor hop presence. The finish was sweet and lingered - tasted like crystalized sugar.

Deep copper/mohogany w/ a short lived off white head. Clean malty aroma w/a little solventy alcohol, low esters; caramel aroma is present but I was expecting it to be more predominant; has a light roasty aroma as well. Flavor is malty w/a little bit of roast and chocolate, but both are very subtle. Very clean, malty, and well balanced from start to finish. I was expecting more caramel flavor out of this one and a little more complexity for a Scotch. Finishes clean and malty, w/a medium full body, low carbonation, and a pleasant warming alcohol that's well hidden, but it does have a dry mouthfeel. I guess I was expecting to be more malty. It's well balanced, but a little too well IMHO. Again, I was expecting a little more complexity, but I'm not completely dissappointed, I just expected more for some reason.

Dark copper in colour with a medium-sized off-white head. Aroma of malt, malt, mmore malt and a toffee sweetness. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong maltiness (no surprise there) with some sweet flavours. Aftertaste fairly bittered from the malt, but not overwhelmingly so. Overall, a good scottish, but i'm not one for the style. I owe a great big deal of thanks to Phil (Haddon90) for bringing this 65 cL bottle back all the way from California for me to sample on my visit to Knoxville on 27-September-2003.

(draught) Deep copper; little to no head. Nose yields corn, heavy roasted malts, and lots of nuts, like walnut-oil. Again, very nutty taste, walnut and hazelnut. It has an oily aroma, but NOT oily mouthfeel. MF is a bit slick, all the same, medium to full bodied. Good, original, nutty flavour. No Scot would recognise it, however...

A deep amber color with a frothy white head. Aroma filled with caramel and roasted malt. Nice sweet flavor that goes down quite nice!

I think this is a classic scottish ale. Pours brown and transluscent. Aroma of an English ESB with more malt. Flavor was carmelly sweet mixed with bitterness(hop with East Kent maybe?). Finish was sweet. Excellent Scottish Ale.

Reddish/Brown hue with small head and okay lacing. Aroma hints of roasted malt, smoke, whiskey barrel, candy caramel apple, and floral pine. Large malty sweet taste initially. The middle found a minor twangy hop presence. The finish was smoky peat-like and woody dry. This medium-bodied beer had an alcoholic feel and a nice warming effect. While I didn't fully embrace the beer initially, it grew on me. I found it wonderfully confusing and complex, each sip a slighty different experience.
