Brown unclear with a creamy head. Aroma is malt, toffee, carmel and nutts. Taste is generally sweet, bready, with lots of caramel, a bit of alcohol warmth and hop bite at the end. Good version of the style.

22 oz bottle at home from backlog notes 07. Pours a clear amber brown color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, light peat, fig/date fruity character, the nose was weaker, some earthy bitterness, this missed the mark in my opinion.

650 ml bottle. Pours a dark amber colour with a small head. Aroma of bread, sweet caramel and some wet earth. Flavour of sweet caramel, chocolate, earthiness, mild berries, alcohol and some mild butterscotch notes. Medium bodied and low carbonation. Alcohol warms. Dry bready finish. Way too sweet for me.

August 30th, 2011 - Kilt lifting jokes are a sacred art to the kilt wearer. I’ve put on a a kilt in my time, and it attracts equal parts compliments and kilt lifting jokes. Putting a manly skirt on invites the gender identity confusion and the accompanying jokes, and it’s all done in good fun. Thus, it comes as no surprise that McSorley’s Kilt Lifter would appear in a stocking one Christmas - a good-natured ribbing from Santa Claus. There’s nothing exceptional about the beer’s dressings. A thin white head tops a dark amber brown. The real treat comes in the aroma, where overflowing aromas of malt and oozing caramel, contrasted with the dull sugary smell of a well-bruised apple. The flavor steps of the residual sugars, mimicking the aroma’s love for the malts and caramel that remind me of a rich bucket of malt extract. Unlike the aroma, the acidic touch in the flavor reminds me of a spritz of acidic apple, fresh and UNripe, matched with a subtler touch of cotton candy and wrapped in a nearly stifling blanket of ethanol. It’s a scotch ale without the dominant smells and tastes of peat, favoring instead caramel and malt - a delicious beer to go with the events where I tend to don my kilt - places where fried foods and scotch eggs are on the menu, and where everyone else is probably drinking Guinness.

Bomber. Sweet caramel and toffee malt with a hint of smokiness. Pours caramel colored with a thin tan head and very little lacing. Gigantic sweetness from caramel and toffee malt to start. Finishes smooth with a hint of smokiness. Good scotch ale, but a little overwhelming on how sweet the malts are. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear, dark burnt red / amber color, with one finger tan head. Aroma is strong caramel/toffee malt, very light smokiness, vanilla and slight spice. Also faint earthy hops. The taste is big and malty, with a lot of the sweet sugary caramel and toffee candy bar notes as well as some dark fruits. The smokiness is very reserved. The mouth feel is medium with a smooth creamy feel and light to medium carbonation. A decent Scotch ale.

P: Vivacious iced tea appearance with a small dollop of tan micro bubbles. S: Sugar dates soaked in scotch with a spicy base. Toasted toffee, and damp grains. T/M: Herbs, subtle b-vitamins, dry straw, barley, cherry Ricola cough drops, chocolate covered cherries, tea tannins, scotch soaked figs and dates. Sweeter and more herbal than I expected from the nose. The scotch flavor is muted unlike the more boozy nose. The live cultures really create pa different taste than most wee heavies. Body is on the lighter side and actively carbonated. Semis dry finish. O: An interesting take on the style that create a terrific easy drinking beer. Some of the flavors test the taste buds. All in all a successful beer that I would like to drink on St. Patty’s day. Cheers!
