mephisto (1083), Taiwan Jan 31, 2008 deep copper with beige head, it has a milky tea nose and a slight touch of munich malt aroma. it tastes like chocolate milk with coffee, but the mild bitterness balances the brew quite well.
BeerIndustry98 (6), , California, USA does not count Jul 20, 2008 Deep red color, pleasant aroma with a medium body. High alcohol presence in a medicinal ,sweet syrup like taste with flat mouth feel. jcdsmack (20), Henderson, Nevada, USA Jul 8, 2008 I love this beer! This is what a Scotch ale should be. It’s rich thick malty mellow on the hops. It may not be as thick or dark as other scotch ales but at near room temp It has definite chocolate notes that make it a great beer for a nightcap and 8% you will sleep well. It definitely lifted my spirits I dont know about the kilt thing, I was wearing pants. zebracakes (959), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 6, 2008 Bottle. Pours hazy red amber, off white head. Aroma is malt, caramel, fruit. Flavor is similar and very sweet with some metallic notes. Very doughy sweet, and a tad cloying (like Frohike said).
I’m in the mood for quoting so as Chimo Bayo says in Bombas Bombas, "OK." aceofhearts (1373), San Francisco, California, USA Jul 5, 2008 Bottle. Dammit why does my first rating in forever have to be right after MartinT? No one’s ratings are better than his. Somewhat sweet, a little metallic in the flavor. Doesn’t seem very strong and the mouthfeel could be firmer. Some caramel in the taste, quiet finish. MartinT (4241), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 23, 2008 My Bottom Line:
Roasted red peppers and anemic fruity caramel are not signs of a well-designed or healthy Scotch Ale. This is definitely not the kind of quality I expect from Moylan’s, so I hope to try again soon.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-Alcohol is not a bother in the flavor profile.
-Sesame protrudes in the aroma, weirdly enough.
-The body is so thin for the style...there is a distinct lack of caramelization.
-After reading the commercial description, I can only imagine I got a bad bottle because what I tasted could not have been further from what they are selling on the label.
Bottle.
