Thanks Don for bringing back from SD. Like a liquor. Sweet from the carmel and malt. Scotch up front and then carbonation kicks in with hoppy aftertaste that tingles the tongue. Bit of lace. WIne-like.

Pours a copper, ruby color with decent amount of foam. Thick caramel peat malt aroma. Body is robust and has some stale graininess to it. Interesting complexity with a strong western hop influence. Finish is of toasted malt with some alcoholic notes. This beer was confusing and had a lot of off-flavors that detracted from its authenticity.

Amber pour with a khaki head. Caramel malt, bread, toast, and some dark fruits. But, kind of watery and the booze is not exactly veiled. Maybe a hint of chocolate. The flavor is certainly on the bland side, but there is some caramel, bread, and fruit. Maybe a little citrus, some alcohol, and toast.

Pours a slight bit hazy with a tawny brown and dark cedar/copper color. Fruity pennies up front, turning slightly sour, with a light, peaty note of maple and caramelized peanuts. Not good – just a bit peaty, a bad peaty – some sour grains and nuts, and a slick, oily, tinny flavor in the finish. Do not want.

My Bottom Line:
Roasted red peppers and anemic fruity caramel are not signs of a well-designed or healthy Scotch Ale. This is definitely not the kind of quality I expect from Moylan’s, so I hope to try again soon.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-Alcohol is not a bother in the flavor profile.
-Sesame protrudes in the aroma, weirdly enough.
-The body is so thin for the style...there is a distinct lack of caramelization.
-After reading the commercial description, I can only imagine I got a bad bottle because what I tasted could not have been further from what they are selling on the label.
Bottle.

Thanks to my wife for this. Pours deep brownish with 1-finger or so tan head. Aroma of caramel malt, some figgy fruit, brown sugar, a solid dose of nutty aromas, and some slight rauchy wafts, this one has a medium to slightly heavy palate, with the initial flavors being caramel malty brown sugar, although not as sweet, giving way to some nutty and figgy fruit notes at mid-palate. Smooth and enjoyable.

Bomber. Poured murky medium brown with a short cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up slightly sour caramel notes with faint smoke and darker fruit. The flavor had dry, lightly smoked toffee and caramel at the core with currents of sour fruit skins laced throughout (don’t think that that component should have been there).. some sour, sticky vegetal notes on the finish.. not very good. Medium-plus bodied, sour, and off on the palate.. warming impression with some brown sugar right after the swallow. I’m with ya, John.

2009-12-05. Dark red brown body, near headless, beige ring. 3+ Flavour is fairly sweet, malt, touch of caramel. Aroma is rich sweet caramel malt. 6+ Palate is smooth, average to medium palate, under carbonated. Okay. Has its moments but lacks overall impact. Pleasant. Cask at Coles, Buffalo

Bottle from Wine Warehouse Charlottesville. Rating from notes written whilst wasted, so we’ll see how this goes. Pours a ruby color. No head to speak of, and minimal lacing. Aroma of caramel and beans. Taste more of the same... strong beans (the peat, I guess) and sweet malt. Odd.

Bottle courtesy of Dazale. Pours reddish brown with a thin white head. Smells of fruit, some earthy hints. Tastes of earth, tea, some caramel. Average.
