porterhouse (991), Alna, Maine, USA Sep 4, 2008 (22 oz. bottle from Kappy’s) Sweet and buttery...Pours hazy burnt orange with about half a finger of light yellowish-biege head that recedes to a thin layer. Aroma of caramel, toffee, buttery sweetness and fruit. Mouthfeel is fairly smooth, kind of on the light side, sticky. Nice weepy rings of lacing. Flavor is a bit of an odd mix - butter rum Life Savers, toffee, whisky, caramel, buttercream sweetness and fairly bitter, esp. towards finish. Some hint of smoke or peat as it warms. ABV pretty well-hidden. Sort of odd and messy. Not completely terrible but worst big beer I’ve had from these guys.
jbuzz (566), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Nov 29, 2008 kind of dull and uninteresting. Caramel, toffee, smokey, medium sweet and the finish is somewhat bitter. twindadplus2 (364), Wisconsin, USA Nov 27, 2008 Bottle at the Burger Bar in Las Vegas. Cherry red color with a small tan head. Aroma is sweet malt with some hints of smoke and vanilla. Flavor is creamy, roasted malt with a smoky astringence and a sweet toffee finish. Light carbonation and on the low end of medium bodied. A bit sweet for a scotch ale but a good beer that I would enjoy again. dm9831 (706), Monee, USA Nov 20, 2008 deep dark hazy apricot color, slight off-white head that quickly dissolves into tiny bubbles around rim. sour fruit aroma , sweet malt, airy and mild. first flavor is a vinous assault, followed quickly by sweet malt. once the beer warms, the flavor turns creamy malt, but still vinous. full bodied, dry finish. not sure the brewer created a scotch ale here, but a tasty brew nonetheless. CaryTheDude (489), Ripon, Wisconsin, USA Nov 18, 2008 Updated: Nov 19, 2008Crushed with Jakebra. You want some scotch in your scotch ale? Here is it. Dirty Bastard, it is not, but it also won’t quite lift your kilt. Still a very nice, not subtle scotch ale. Angeloregon (2023), Portland, Oregon, USA Nov 1, 2008 Thanks to Ezra for sharing this bottle at his Scotch tasting. Poured a deep brown mildly chestnut hue with a thin taupe head. Satisfyingly smoky and rich. Malt driven and wonderfully flavorsome.
