3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 bozoNZ (715) - Christchurch, - JUN 9, 2012Not sure about thus. A little hot, had a nutty flavour. Kinda tastes 8% but is a not thin and format haver the richness not sweet malt driven feel you should get for the style...

As a Scot I’m supposed to love these hop-lite sugar bombs, but this left me as cold as Christmas in a croft with no peat. I bought this out of some misplaced sense of patriotism (Kilt: tick, Tartan: tick, Scotch: tick), but it’s as sweet as Coca-Cola and packs as much hop cut-through. Which is largely true to style, of course, but doesn’t improve the experience. I last had a sugary soft drink about a decade ago, so this jangled my nervous system. It was translucent amber with a fast-fizzling head. Sweet, malty aroma, as you’d expect, with minimal hop input: Highland toffees, Milo, Digestive biscuit, faint grassiness. Palate seems underdone - flat and oily. On the tongue it’s mostly nondescript fruity sugars and little else. Light nuttiness, chocolate orange, a faint herbal note. I’m as comfortable with this as a Proclaimers fan at a Wiggles concert. (Pint bottle from Leura Cellars.)
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 rangerred (663) - Johnson City, Tennessee, USA - MAY 6, 2013
Had on nitro.
Pours a clear medium brown with a little head and leaves tons of lacing as the beer is drunk
Aroma is weak as is often the case with nitro beers but there is some licorice and grass along with a touch of smokiness.
The flavor is quite weak as well. Some smoke and char along with a little bit of grass. There is a little nuttiness and a moderate amount of sweetness with just a light bitterness.
Overall, I was quite underwhelmed. Flavor was lacking all-around and it is just a boring beer. Maybe the nitro hurt it but I doubt I will be picking up a bottle anytime soon.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 womencantsail (6906) - Garbage Grove, California, USA - MAY 1, 2013
Amber pour with a khaki head. Caramel malt, bread, toast, and some dark fruits. But, kind of watery and the booze is not exactly veiled. Maybe a hint of chocolate. The flavor is certainly on the bland side, but there is some caramel, bread, and fruit. Maybe a little citrus, some alcohol, and toast.
4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 adamah (63) - - APR 25, 2013
Mmm. A dark amber colored brew with solid head. Like the commercial despcrition says it gets better when it warms. Aromas of wood, caramel, toast and bisquit come out of the beer. Mostly a sweet flavor but drys up towards the end. It is a great examle of the style.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jmagnus87 (1390) - Rockford, Illinois, USA - APR 6, 2013
From notes. Draft at olympic. Caramel and citrus. Smells very bready. Definitely has that distinct scotch ale taste. Above average, but not super special.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ansermadide (1200) - Kyle, Texas, USA - MAR 31, 2013
This beer is very dark amber in color, clear in body, with a white head and extremely fast-rising carbonation. It has a soft, woody aroma that’s well-balanced with its sweet, roasted malts. It’s rich and creamy in the mouth... very creamy, actually. A touch of fruity sweetness hits your tongue right away, then the seemingly thin Scottish malt flavor numbs the palate slightly before a rich, concentrated sweetness (much like molasses) coats the taste buds. The finish is mostly dry, with a slight peat-like smokiness that takes the edge off the beer’s residual sweetness. Overall, it’s good, but not worth hunting down or even spending your cash on unless you just want to try something new or are in the mood for a creamy Scotch ale. It’s well-brewed, though, and tastes great... if you’re in the mood for a Scotch ale.

Pour is hazy burnt amber with a khaki head. Aroma shows notes of toffee, nuts, and grass. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of light roast. Washes whiskey down well!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Beerenberger (800) - Fischer, Texas, USA - MAR 21, 2013
Aroma of sweet malts and maybe a hint of honey. A slightly hazy copper pour with a mostly lasting small tan head and sticky lacing. Flavors of toasted malt, nuts, and caramel give way to a grainy finish and aftertaste. Medium body with medium carbonation. Overall, nice toasty flavors provide a very enjoyable brew. Would drink again.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ComradeK (732) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - MAR 18, 2013
1 pt. 6 fl. oz. bottle. Pours a clear and attractive burnished copper colour, with a medium off-white head, which lasts well although does not leave much lacing. Rich nutty malt, a more savoury crispbread note and mild floral hops make up the aroma. Faint floral and sweet spice hops give way to a candied fruit flavour. Smooth hazelnut comes through in the mid-palate, along with a sweet Turkish delight flavour. This continues into the finish, and leaves behind a lingering aftertaste. This beer has some lovely sweet Scotch ale flavours coming through, yet avoids becoming, like some others of the style, too sweet and cloying. It is quite well-carbonated for a beer of this style, and this keeps the sweetness in check, making for a well-balanced and enjoyable Scotch ale.
