Dark amber color. Medium head. Aroma is hoppy, resiny and piney. This beer has the big bold maltyness of a barley wine with the whopping hoppyness of a BIG IPA. Flavorful and complex. Hops are grapefruit, citrus, pine and floral. Malts are fruity and a touch sweet. Smooth taste throughout. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Amber, clouded body, decent head formation. Aroma is frutiy but highly alcoholic like an appletini but with greater complex blend of tropical and dark fruits. Excellent blend of malt fruitiness and caramel on the palate constantly battling with hoppy bitter citrus. All this happens without ever getting too difficult to drink. Alcohol is certainly noticeable, but there’s plenty of flavor and character to push it down a few notches. Highly bitter finish slowly mellows out but never quite disappears.

Love the commercial description of this one, liked the beer almost as much. Very sweet aroma of a combination of rich malts and loads of hops. very smooth body with all that malt making it slide right to the back of the tongue. but that is were this beer and i stopped getting along. i did not find the bitterness to be a very pleasant bitterness. i had been set up for a sweet happy ending and then i was assaulted by loads of hops that had been boiled too long. other than that it was a good beer. i just needed something to clean the palate afterwards.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2003 6/7/02 Cask-conditioned draught: Pineapple juice aroma, cloudy brown w/ off-white head, not as fruity as the aroma suggested, however still a bit fruity in flavor with a hoppy finish. 6/17/02: Bottle: Aroma was much more grassy and IPA-like than the draught, Had to add a point for the nice complex hoppiness I didn't notice before

I am honestly surprised at the high rating this has right now. I was expecting more from something with the now trendy ’double’ term. Had about half the hops taste of Ruinition or Hop Rod. Still a decent IPA, but if I were a hop head I would go for something else. Did I get a bad bottle?

Medium sized oily biege head and a hopy nose. Pours coppery. Starts off fairly thin in the mouth with an abrasive thin mouthfeel and a steely hop taste. Malt asserts itself after first 3d of the glass and balance this IPA out nicely. Resiny and vinious with the mouthfel changeing to slightly oily at halfway through the glass.

Poured with a huge head, one inch of beer to eight inches of head. Oddly enough, carbonation didn’t seem too screwed up when drinking it, just foamed excessively in the pour. Very bitter and hoppy, with grapefruity citrusy hops. Malts are definitely there, but lacks the backbone of a Ruination or 90-Minute IPA. Nicely creamy, but lacks the depth I expect in a super IPA.

A beautiful beer... dark copper color. Full-bodied, loads of chewy caramel and toasted malts, nice complex hoppiness. A very pleasant, lingering, mouth watering bitter aftertaste. A special IPA, not an everyday quaffer.
