0o9i (272), Reno, Nevada, USA Nov 30, 2007 Bottled. Small head, offwhite, turns into a ring and laces a bit. Cloudy, honey-colored body. Lots of hops, flowers, and honey on the aroma for a nice balanced aroma. Lots of fruit in there as well, peach, apricot, and citrus. A little bit of yeast, a malty-dough aroma. Caramel. Mouth is medium with light, foamy carbonation and a nice, lightly-dry finish. Where’s the alcohol!? Hiding in the malts so far--we’ll see as she warms up--which is the best place to put it. I taste honey, flowers, honey-comb, peach, apricot, and a strong aftertaste of apricot//grapefruit rind//light pine. Sugary sweet in there too. Definitely hop-dominated, but lacking the heavy, rich malts that would make me love this. A light malt profile; a beautifully blended hop-profile that doesn’t really scream a single element too loudly. It’s well done, but I don’t really like it because it tastes light and bitter without anything special or excellent about it. 8.5% ABV in such a light beer is pretty excellent. Feel that. This could easily pass for a 5-6% flavor-wise. While I think this is better crafted than hopsickle, I’d rather have the hopsickle.
TeamTrappist (207), jericho, New York, USA Dec 3, 2008 Bomber. Poured a murky orange amber. This has a super piny and grapefruit nose. Sort of a light front, a huge middle, and a great bitter finish. I noticed some interesting spice notes that kind of distinguish this from just the hopslam imperial IPA crowd. Very good, and would have this again, in fact I have, thegreenrooster (1578), St.louis, Missouri, USA Nov 29, 2008 Pour is a cloudy orange with no head. Aroma is piney/citrus hops. Flavor is again piney/citrus hops with a low malt profile. Alcohol is no problem and the finish is smooth and easy going down. Decent but not mind blowing for this style. dirtcampbrew (4), , Colorado, USA does not count Nov 27, 2008 Typical west coast 2IPA. A big hop nose wonderfully aromatic with tones of floral/citrusy hops. A well supported malt backbone. A good mouthfeel overall. A beer worthy of its style. jbuzz (566), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Nov 20, 2008 I guess i have gotten used to big hps. This one falls a little short. Its good but go for the triples. MrBunn (951), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 19, 2008 Bomber. Pours a nice orange with a fluffy, off-white head that laces a bit. Aromas are grapefruit & pineapple, with a bit of sugary sweetness underneath. Flavor is a great take on the double IPA… not overpoweringly sweet or alcoholic or unbalanced towards a hops explosion. There are plenty of citrus/pine hops to go around, but the sweetness from the malt keeps them in check and things only go a bit awry in the late aftertaste which seems to have a decidedly bitter grapefruit peel taste on every other sip or so. Still, this is very drinkable.
