4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 FlacoAlto (3155) - Tucson, USA - SEP 1, 2004
Pours a brilliantly clear ruby-copper color. It is topped by a creamy tan colored head that is quite thick and lucious and leaves layers of Belgian lace as I take each sip. An immediate fresh aroma of American hops wafts from my glass, I get notes of grapefruit, lychee, tangerine, and fresh pine needles. My first sip encounters a medium bodied beer that coats my mouth. The flavor is quite hoppy with an aggresive hop bit in the finish. This beer is raw with fresh hop flavor, there is a bit of astringency from the hopping levels, though it is not so much that it really detracts. The flavor is sweet up front with lots of fruity hop notes of citrus, grapefruit, and lychee that sit on top of a layer of maltiness that has notes of caramel, and a bit of toasted malt.
This beer is quite enjoyable. It seems to be missing a certain something that would take it over the top, but that is an elusive thing to put your hand on. I guess the main complaint is that, while it starts out big and aggresive, it seems to fade a bit with time. Though I must add that it remains quite tasty, and I will certainly enjoy having the rest of this bottle.
3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 merb (17) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 5, 2012
Nice crisp ipa color..not necessarily what I would expect to see from a double. More on the bitter side of the hop as opposed to the floral...but still smooth.

Bottle. Pours slightly hazy golden amber with a medium off-white head that dissipates fairly slowly. Aroma of pine with some citrus and alcohol notes. Taste is high on hops and alcohol, which was not well disguised in my sample. A good, not great, DIPA in my opinion.
