2011-05-13. Orange amber body with a nice frothy beige head. 3+ Flavour has a good amount of bitterness, the finish is a touch sharp in a way I can’t quite describe adequately. Herbal/ herbaceous hop character. 6+ Hoppy aroma is similarly herbal and herbaceous with lightly grassy character. Average plus bodied palate. Decent but the hop profile is not entirely to my tastes. 22oz bottle: Pours a clear deep bronze orange with a stringy-lacing white head. Has a lightly sweet toasted malty nose with a good amount of fresh grapefruity hops. Starts with a good light malty sweetness and lots of resiny piny hop flavor and bitter balance before a crisp bittersweet finish. A well-balanced and assertive, yet very drinkable, IPA.

Bomber from Greens Discount in Coumbia SC. Nice hazy gold pour with a thin head that lasts. Super bitter hops from the boil up front with hints of malt. The aroma is weak, probably due to the cold temp. Grassy, piney hops in abundance. Not great, but then again, not bad. Very satisfying on a hot day and very consumable. I’ll take the Hopsickle over this any day.

22oz bottle. Rating #76. Orange/copper color with a real big, nice fluffy white head and some real nice lacing. Big piney, sweet resiny aroma, really nice and tempting, it’s making my mouth water a little bit. Bitter bite right up front with an almost smokey sweetness from the malts and a pretty good hoppy aftertaste that lingered for a little bit. (1675)

21 Aug 2010, bottle. straw colour, faintly hazy, one or two bubbles. really piney hop aroma. thin/med body, slightly fizzy. very astringent w very bitter finish. there really isn’t any balance. hop flavour isn’t one that stands on its own very well. not very nice.

Moylan’s Nor Cal IPA makes for quite the west coast hop-bomb. Strongly bitter, with a lingering piney finish, this beer backs up the hops with a mildy grainy malt front. Still, the hops are wicked big for a single IPA, kinda what you would expect from the maniacs who brew Hopsickle, but also a little overpowering. Citrus pops up a little on the nose and in the initial hoppy burst, but the focus of this bottle is the grinding, sandpaper-dry fade. Good, but the final eight ounces of the bomber have flared up some wicked hop burn in my gut.

My Bottom Line:
This West Coast IPA’s gripping bitterness tends to overshadow a superbly organized flavor profile where floral hops and their citrusy edges tag along slender biscuity, caramelized cereals for a very drinkable pint.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-Tufts of foam sit atop the veiled amber.
-Everything was balanced, until the finishing bitterness (intensely resinous and wooden) took hold of the tongue.
-The mouthfeel is soft and slender, making for effortless drinking.
-If it weren’t for that exaggerated finish, this would have been excellent to me.

Bottle.

Pour is a nice copper orange with a nice soapy head along with some lacing. Aroma is pine, spruce and grapefruit. Taste is somewhat watery pine, spruce and grapefruit with gritty malt finish. Palate is gritty and chalky which finishes dry.
