3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber from the Saxapahaw General Store after a fine dinner and before a great Drive-By Truckers show at the Haw River Ballroom. Fuck yeah. Pours lighter orange, sort of hazy. Not too much head. Pretty much a slightly maltier but spicier Two Hearted Ale. The hop profile was similar, but with a bit of a peppery kick. I dunno, it was alright, but something about it just didn’t impress me. Maybe it was a weird follow up to the delicious Sinebrychoff Koff Porter I had with the fantastic local pork/beef meatloaf there, but I think it’s just not my style of IPA.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
(Moylans Nor Cal IPA) Tap at MOUT Bierfestival, Nijmegen, 150 ml glass.
Deep orange colour on the body, a bit hazy, with a tall and thick white head on top, very good retention.
Aroma seems to be a bit weak, there are though some caramel malts, orange peel and fruity notes to be found.
Taste has some hops, caramel malts, citrus, orange, with a long bitter finish.
Medium thin body, carbonation on good levels.
Good, pretty easy to drink.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Golden color, just hazy, with compact head. Nice resiny hops aroma, but mild. Dry mouthfeel, the malt has straws and some cereals character, the hop has a herbaceous touch, some hop resins in the final. Total lack of fruit, in case you are looking for it.
Ok IPA, nothing special.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Boise Co-op. More earthy and dirty than the norm for West Coast IPAs. Musty, funky hops and malt. Lightly hazy golden pour with small creamy head. Gentle Fruit overtones, not overly bitter, great gateway IPA.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at the brewery, served in a flight. Pours a clear bright gold with a small white head that leaves spots of lace in the glass. Notes of lemon citrus, grass, pale and sweet malts, tea, herbs, and grass. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, bright mouthfeel. This was the biggest standout of the bunch - a good West Coast IPA.
