Our Barleywine is a rich and heavy ale brewed to a high gravity. Massive body, mouthfeel and hoppiness.

A little underwhelming. Pours cloudy red with some head and lacing. Aroma of booze and malt. Not particularly balanced. Finishes boozy bitter. Syrupy. Bottle at volos.

Pours a very hazy copper color. Very thin off-white head. Aroma is malty with hints of copper. Sweet and malty gives way to a tartness quickly. Finishes a bit dry with some hop bitterness. Can get a good amount of the alcohol in it too.

A powerful and delicious barley wine. Full bodied. Deep brown in color. Smells of wet, minerally malts. Sweet yet finishes dry and leaves me wanting another sip. A rich and delicious beer.

So I picked this up for a $1... thatís right, one dollar. Guess the lineup didnít do too well around here, so they were just getting it out the door. I picked up a case, think "how bad could a barley-wine really be?" Man, I should have bought everything they had! A VERY respectable barley-wine that already had 6-8 months of aging on it and was tasting great! Plenty of malt sweetness with a bit of booziness that Iím hoping will fall off with a bit more aging, and lots of dark fruit complexity. Not the best barley-wine Iíve ever had, but itís without a DOUBT the best Iíve had for the price!

This barleywine style ale tastes like a barley wine to me but make no mistake I know it is only in the style. Its cloudy brown body and thin white head give off an earthy mineral character. The taste is rich malt balanced by bitterness and it hides its strength well. Very nice.

650ml bottle from Beers Of Europe shared with Steve.Pour was a brownish red colour with medium sized off white head.Caramel aroma with a few nutty hints.Nutty tasting alongside the caramel with the alcohol more in the background.Average but decent enough barley wine.

Bottle shared by Gerrit. Thanks! Pours a lightly hazed deep copper with an offwhite head. Nose is leafy and herbal hops. Distinct caramel carries across as well. Clean, light sherry note. On tasting, very drinkable. Warming alcohol is noted. Medium bitterness. Earthy, a bit out of balance overall. Leafy and herbal. Not too bad.

Bottle. Pours a slightly reddish dark brown color with a moderate off-white head. Nose is rather malty and harsh. Taste is much the same - indicative of the style, but nothing remarkable.

What a gorgeous beer! Itís deep, dark red color is a perfect contrast to the bright, somewhat dense white head. The first thing that jumps out at you once you begin the intake is its strong, high-caramel malt, nutty aroma. For as much alcohol as is in this, it really doesnít come through in the nose at all, and it even smells a little denser than most barleywines. That nuttiness carries through into the mouth, which is followed by a dry, bitter rustiness that pools underneath the tongue. It wreaks of a strange combination of tobacco, dry cocoa and green oak. Honestly, Iím not sure that I like this. Even though itís packed with alcohol, it tastes more like a nutty, low-alcohol English Old Ale. Why is this so awkward? My suggestion: if you drink this, drink it cold to hide the weirdness. I wonder if itís because itís aged a few months. Eh... bad excuse. Why so many people give this such high reviews, I have no idea.
