Our Barleywine is a rich and heavy ale brewed to a high gravity. Massive body, mouthfeel and hoppiness.

Pours deep red with a thin, dissipating white head. Aroma is vanilla, dark fruit, alcohol, caramel, spice, herbs, tough of cocoa. Taste is vanilla, alcohol, very dry, bitter lemon peel; big bitter citrus and touch of cocoa finish. Thin lacing; chewy.

On tap at the brewery. Pours amber with small off white head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is toasted malt and booze. Medium mouth, caramel, candy sugar, bready malt, boozy finish, decent.

Draught at Moylans. Almost clear copper liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma of raw sugar, raisins, dried fruit and light toast. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of raw sugar, raisins and dried fruit. Medium to full bodied with medium carbonation. Decent.

Draft at source. Nose is malty weren’t with a bit of peppery hops. Very clear deep red pour with orange highlights. Taste is all malt sugar initially without caramel sweetness. A touch of peppery alcohol in the finish. Warming. Good.

Sample on tap at the brewpub. Clear copper pour with thin foamy head. Aroma is malty, boozy, toasty. Taste is toasty, rich malty, way too bitter, american barleywine, hoppy finish. Palate is full bodied.

Some floral hops with tastes of caramel, orange marmalade and malt, which should be a good thing. Rather thin and disappointing nevertheless.

Vinous aroma in a cloudy light brown pour. Taste is surprisingly light to start but builds in subtlety and complexity from there. While this is not one of my favoured styles I reckon this is a nice example of it.

Cooper with a small beige head. Aroma is caramel, chocolate, bread, citric fruits, plums, hazelnut. Taste is strong chocolate, cocoa and caramel, some coffee, herbal botterness, mint, dried fruits. Bitter aftertaste. Warming mouthfeel.
