On tap at Apex in Portland, split with Matts_Property, pours a red-tinged dark brown with a big beige head. Aroma of spicy orange peel, potent hops, coriander and various other potent spices. Flavour is like a CDA, hoppy and spicy upfront, followed by roasted notes - then a spiciness to finish. Very nice.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber pours out a nice mahogany body with short lived tan to mocha head. The aroma begins with full notes of spicy black licorice and black strap molasses and then moving firmly into pumpernickel, slightly citrus nuanced fruit cake and a touch of cinnamon. The taste has dark roasted malts, fruit flavored tea, some spicy anise, a sense of spicy rye and then rich fruity two week old fruit cake all sort of mingling together. Actually I get a lot of fruit cake going on here and as a consequence isn’t even a typical beer for a beer geek. Interesting nonetheless.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz bottle. Poured into tulip glass. Appearance: Very dark black with a beige head, has some good froth to it. Aroma: Sweet malts, dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, some light orange, roasted coffee & nuts. Taste: Light malt flavor, dominant orange citrus flavor but not too much, chocolate, cream...small hint of hop flavor in there also. Palate: Light bodied, fizzy, very carbonated MF, finishes smooth, roasted nuts lingering aftertaste. Overall: Pretty damn good. Kinda reminds me of those dark chocolate orange candies that you whack on the counter before eating. Too bad it’s not an all the time Giants beer. Delicious! Decided to drink this on the last day of the 2011 season. SF GIANTS!!!

(22oz bomber thanks to ericandersnavy) clear dark brown with a dark tan thick head. Nose of cream, orange, Belgian, milk chocolate and cocoa, and some pancake aromas too. Taste of cream, orange, cocoa, milk chocolate. Body is creamy, the beer is delicious. This was quite polarizing at our tasting.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
From a a 22 oz bottle this was a very dark red held up to the light but looked dark brown otherwise. Big foamy mocha head. Pours very dark brown with a creamy 1 finger tan head. Nose is orange zest on chocolate and coffee. Medium body. Flavor is kind of mixed with some chocolate, orange, and some vanilla. The overall mixture did not work well for me.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
22 oz. bottle from Hayduke who is a big Giants fan. We drank this together via facebook chat. This is very dark opaque with red. A light tan colored head. The nose is faint and I got both coffee and chocolate. Ron got orange but I never did. I did taste orange peels and it brought a lot of bitterness. I also tasted the coffee and chocolate. Somehow those three flavors didn’t mesh well. The coffee becomes ashy as the beer warms. When very warm the bitterness smoothed out a bit and improved. Some dark fruit was tasted. This must have been conceived and brewed during a moment of elation. It should have been reconsidered.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled @ GLBF 2011. What the hell is this! They said it was a black IPA, but it doesn’t fit the style. Poured black with light tan head. Smells like Oranges and cloves. Taste is similar and pretty hard to finish a 3oz sample. Didn’t care too much for this.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Appearance: Pours a cola brown with a tan pin stripe.
Aroma: Light licorice, ripe fruit, roast. Orange candy.
Taste: Peppery roast ,burnt malt finishes with a citrus twang.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, prickly fizz.
Overall: A pretty unique beer. I wouldn’t compare it to a porter, stout or Black IPA. I’d like to try this on draft, I suspect it’s better that way.
