COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Chocolate truffles, cocoa, espresso coffee, burnt currants, the sweetness of a sherry - all come to mind when enjoying an Imperial Stout. A rich porter of English origin brewed to withstand the long voyage from London to Czarist Russia. The classic "Winter Warmer". Big, Strong, Malty Stout.

Sweet and toasty arome, and beautiful dark color (though I was in the quite dark ChurchKey in D.C. whilst trying it on cask. Overall taste notes included chocolate, coffee, and a tinge of medicine. Nice warm, toast finish, with that pleasant back of the throat warmth that derives from the 10% alcohol content. Very enjoyable!

Poured into a tulip glass. Pitch black with a half finger of tan head. Rich smelling. Roasted and burnt malt, chocolate and licorice. Starts like a milk stout, a little sweet, then quickly turns to burnt, super burnt malt overpowering everything in sight, slight bittering at the end. Smooth texture, a fair level of carbonation, kind of crisp. The taste is really bold and in your face burnt malt. That may not be enjoyable to some, but I liked it. This is not a shy beer.

look: 4.5 smell: 4 taste: 4 feel: 3 overall: 3.5 I had this at an amazing imperial stout tasting party here in Boise with at least 75 beers. This was about average at the party...Poured from bomber into taster. Poured very dark with a finger and a half of a coffee colored head. Smelled chocolate and coffee on the nose. nothing too overwhelming. Tasted chocolate, coffee, and tobacco. Fairly good. I would have it again... Serving type: bottle

At 2012 Avery Strong Ale Fest. Black with a pillowy tan head. Smelled like roasted molasses, bakers chocolate, and maybe some anise. Smells dark and sticky. The taste is definitely so. Rich and sweet with brown sugar notes, a bit of chocolate, a touch of sticky molasses, and a light aftertaste of coffee. Nice body that doesnt sit too heavy or linger too long, sweet without being cloying.

From bottle at Flying Saucer. A dark thick mouthed excellent blend of hops to malt blend. I cannot comment on aroma. I shared this bottle with 3 acquaintances. All of us enjoyed the blend. The 10% ABV is well disquished allowing this beverage to surprise you later. Personally more pleasing than Old Rasputin, similar to Sam Adams.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottling date. Pours thick almost pitch black color with a small fairly dense tan head with good retention that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of huge milk and dark chocolate fudge, caramel, toffee, molasses, coffee, roasted malt, toast, wood, and a bit of herbal hops. Fantastic aromas here with good strength and balance. Taste of big dark chocolate, caramel, toffee, roasted malt, coffee, toast, wood, slight dark fruit, and light herbal hops. Light bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, toffee, caramel, coffee, and roasted malts for a while. Great balance of big robust flavor. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a nice creamy and slick mouthfeel. Alcohol is surprisingly well hidden with only a slight warming after the finish. Way too drinkable to be a 10% beer; this goes down very smoothly. Overall this is a very excellent and balanced imperial stout offering. Extremely enjoyable and smooth.

This rating might be a little unfair because I opened my 1st bottle of my Russian Imperial stout that I brewed to compare against this. Pours jet black with a small tan head. Mine was much larger. The aroma is dark chocolate, fudge, and hints of fig and dates. The flavor is the same with a very roasted bitter finish. Powerful dark bakers chocolate and espresso. It takes some getting used to. Mine was smoother and hid the alcohol much better.
