COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Chocolate truffles, cocoa, espresso coffee, burnt currants, the sweetness of a sherry - all come to mind when enjoying an Imperial Stout. A rich porter of English origin brewed to withstand the long voyage from London to Czarist Russia. The classic "Winter Warmer". Big, Strong, Malty Stout.

Nästan helsvart öl med ett lättare ljusbrunt skum. Doften är som en efterrätt med choklad och alkohol. En chokladmousse med rom. Detsamma men något mer återhållet i smaken.

Bottle from 2005 leftover from the Tasters Choice meetup. Pours a solid dark brown with a huge bubbly tan head that persists forever. The aroma is heavy on the milk chocolate with bits of roast, dark fruit and a hint of sherry. The flavor is rich dark and milk chocolate with a little bit of caramel. Light fruity tartness with hints of earth. Medium body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a sweet light syrupy mouthfeel. This bottle held up surprisingly well for its age! I may have to revisit a fresh bottle, because this was a pretty good beer.

Bottle @ Nieuwjaarsborrel 2014, courtesy of TheJvD. Pours a very dark black beer with a medium sized beige head on top. Aroma is caramel, molasses, yeast and some dark sugar. Flavor is medium sweet, some oak in there. The sweetness is defintely present in there, not so overwhelming. Medium long, sweet aftertaste. Nice beer.

Bottle @ Nieuwjaarsborrel 2014, hosted by MrHangover. Black pour, thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, slightly spicy, some strange molasses. Flavor is roasted, creamy, a bit watery. Nice brew, but somehow a bit disturbing, although I don’t know why...

Deep dark foxy red-amber beer pours viscously to medium, rather thick russet-brown head. Sweet, burnt malts, and a minty, fresh hoparoma, perfumy; dark chocolate; Bitter, hoppy, metallic, resin, roasted. Again this soapy, perfumy streak. More pine in the finish, with bitter chocolate, crème brulée. Warming up, roasty nuts, again metallic tainted; Long lasting bitterness, Always a tad metallic over the roastiness. Well-bodied, very slick to oily. Bit strange stout, as if something else was envisaged first.
