SuzyGreenberg (934), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 16, 2007 22 oz. bottle - held out on drinking this one for almost 2 months; pitch black with tan head that fades after about 5 mins; aromas are a mix of roasted malts and sweet choco; drink incredibly smooth for an imperial with hidden alcohol and a very slight roasted aftertaste
sebletitje (269), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 30, 2008 Bottle courtsey of RidleyBrewery.
Pours black, with brownish/mocha head.
Aroma is of light bitter chocolate, roasted and nutty.
Taste, roasted chocolate, some fruits, oaky, coffee notes for a sweet beer with little hidden bitterness.
An excellent brew, alcohol well hidden. 1_2many (231), Ohio, USA Aug 26, 2008 Alefest sample. Black pour with a good head. Chocolate, coffee, and roasty malt aroma with a bit of earthy hops. Sweet along with a nice addition of bittering hops. Slightly watery feel to this however. Otherwise quite good. Bigmmartin (208), Dayton, Ohio, USA Aug 25, 2008 Bottle sampled at Dayton Ale Fest. Not overly impressive. As far as complexity and flavor goes, it’s fairly average. Very dark black beer with a strong head. Typical roasted malt aroma. Flavor is roasted malt and some hops. Moderately sweet as well, with some chocolate in there. ewestern (83), Ohio, USA Aug 25, 2008 Dark brown beer beneath a dark ran head. Roasted malt, chocolate and coffee aroma. Chocolate and coffee flavor with a bitter coffee finish, alcohol is well hidden. DonKi11uminati (9), , California, USA does not count Aug 19, 2008 Updated: Aug 30, 2008Bottle from Andronico’s Market. Pours beautiful pitch black like motor oil. Feels dense and thick, pouring with some lacing and minimal head. Aroma is largely roasted malt, almost burnt, with notes of espresso. Palate is full and oily, a bit creamy, with light carbonation and bitter hops. Espresso and bitter dark chocolate that didn’t show up in the nose are assertive in the flavor, with a subtle sense of the high alcohol content in the finish that comes around rather quickly. Intense and complex while it lasts. Quite enjoyable.
