COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Chocolate truffles, cocoa, espresso coffee, burnt currants, the sweetness of a sherry - all come to mind when enjoying an Imperial Stout. A rich porter of English origin brewed to withstand the long voyage from London to Czarist Russia. The classic "Winter Warmer". Big, Strong, Malty Stout.

Poured from 22 oz. bottle in Marietta, GA. Opaque, brown-black with a small, quickly disappearing tan head and no lacing. Simple aroma if chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Taste of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, dark fruit, toffee and mild citric/piney hops. Medium body and medium carbonation with a smooth mouthfeel. Nice, roasty, mocha big stout that is all too easy to drink for a 10% brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

ALLOVATE (2408) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - MAY 20, 2014
Black as midnight in the glass with a deep tan crown that throws a thin, weaving lace. Strong note of savoury, fruit mince, currants and raisins, and burnt fruit sugars on the nose with little hints of aniseed, damp top-soil, burnt rye bread, coffee dregs, and buttery chocolate ganache - sutlry. Dry and light on first sip. Really did not expect that. Great depth of dark malts. Dusty, earthy and peaty with rough roasted coffee bean and charred wood edges. Powdery Dutch cocoa and bitter sweet chocolate along with just a little umami meatiness and kelp. Woody, bitter malt finish; plenty of length with that ABV remaining well restrained. Would have loved to see more body in this one. The carbonation a mere prickle but it is leftfield of being smooth on the palate. This is a great beer, loved quaffing it but it is unexpectedly short of the "cigar beer" proclaimed on the label. Good stuff overall though! (1pint. 6fl.oz, no date stamp, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

16.05.2014, 0,65l bottle @ home:
Nice creamy light brown mediumlasting head. Aroma is very strange, wet cardboard, unripe banana, alcohol, dark malts, sour coffee, chocolate. Taste is slightly dry and harsh, grass, cardboard, hops, hay, burnt coffee, roasted grain, licorice, oak, hints of unripe banana. Medium bitterness, dry harsh mouthfeel. Holy crap on a cracker!!

Quickly disappearing head. Deep cocoa aroma with some licorice and semi-dark chocolate. Feels heavy and sweet. Flavour has licorice, some hayish tones and cocoa. Finishes with some salty licorice. Also some vanilla tones at the end of the bottle. Feels a bit thin, I’d expect 10% ABV IS to be more rich. After all this waiting (tried even two years ago to buy this from the brewery but I was out of luck) this is a disappointment. Not bad but I expected more. There’s even a slight hop-related(?) off-flavour present.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Neiman’s place. Thanks Neiman. Black with a big bubbly brown head. Heavily roasted aroma with dark chocolate, mocha and a strong vegetal character. Bittersweet roasty flavor, a bit vegetal, with some chocolate, coffee and a bitter finish, burnt and a bit hoppy. Rather full-bodied.
