3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Opaque, however there is some mahogany and brown to its look. Very small light brown head. Smells of caramel, chocolate and roasted coffee hops. Creamy, silky mouth-feel, chocolate and roasted malt flavors, tons of roasted coffee. More of a really good sweet stout with extra alcohol. This is not in the IS class in my opinion. Shared from a 750ml bottle purchased at Whole Foods in Vienna, VA

UPDATED: APR 1, 2007 This imperial stout pours with a darkbrown to black body topped by a thick, tan, lasting head with good lacing left behind. The aroma is sweet, chocolatey and malty with a slight roastiness and a hint of cream. The flavor is sweet creamy and malty with a nice chocolatey roastiness and a hint of licorice bitterness as well as a slight sourness. Full bodied and creamy smooth.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark brown to almost black. Almost no head on mine, but I kind of poured it that way. The nose is rich. Molasses, ripe fruit, alcohol and maybe tobacco and espresso. NICE! Taste is more of the same. Rich with more molasses and alcohol along with some fruit and espresso. It's a tad thinner than expected, but I imagine this would be nice after aging a year or so. Very smooth , velvety mouthfeel and finish. Great beer!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Massive, huge, gigantic bold beer. Pours dark and thick with a minimal dark brown head. Heavy roasted coffee and dark chocolate flavors with some overripe plums and prunes in there too. Finish was hoppy and slightly bitter. This is a beast of an Imperial.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. This is a good one. Pours brown, thick and viscous with a small tan head that diminishes fairly quickly. Aroma is rich and heavy, dark sweet fruity smells dominate - concentrated prune and raisin juice, coffee and alcohol. Flavor is sweet and rich, chocolate, espresso, tart fruitiness and the warmth of alcohol with a lingering sweetly astringent finish. Thick body and little carbonation. Very enjoyable.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours black with a very small tan head. Strong sweet aroma of cocoa and currants with a hint of roasted malt. Starts out with flavor of chocolate malt, faint coffee and a mild fruitiness. Aftertaste slowly builds to a slightly smokey, full dry roasted malt and a mild espresso flavor.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A smooth easy on the palate brush of roasty malts with chocolate and a warming maltiness. Way too easy to drink which makes it even more desirable.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This pours black with a good maocha colored head that sticks around awhile. Big chocolate aroma with roast barley undertones. Sweetness provides the foundation for the flavors of chocolate and coffee that come next. The flavors that contributed to the main flavor profile continue right through the finish. A very nice Stout, not quite as bold as some Imperials but very well craftedand extremely enjoyable.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Opaque with good creamy head and very good lacing. The aroma has large chocolate and caramel tones, burnt and smoky malts, ripe fruits (currents, raisin, mango), and a sherry vinous tone. The taste is just like a chocolate malt initially then a bold fruity component kick in providing both twang and depth. Espresso and bitterness is detected more towards the finish until being overcome by the Sherry barrel nature. Sticky, chewy full-bodied brew with a minimal warming effect, more than a mouthfeel. A fine sipping brew, it's like a huge sweet stout that has a fruity presence and smoky qualities running through it. Neat!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice black color, small head that faded quickly leaving little behind. The aroma was malty and roasted with a hint of chocolate and coffee. The flavor was roasty with a decent chocolate and coffe flavor hints of raisin and something else that i can't describe. The alcohol manages to stay fairly well hidden with just a few instances where it pops up.A very nice brew much better then the Tipperary.Well worth getting a few more for later.
