4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Chocolate, rasberries, coffee, cocoa powder all in the aroma. Very thin late forming head that slowly dissapates. Very smooth, coffee, bitter chocolate, and alcohol with sweet chocolate flavor jumping at you after you swallow a drink. Nice and complex, very impressed. Very smooth, extremely good beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Intense brown colour, full strength coffee and chocolate aroma with rummy vapours heating up the nasal passages. Jam packed with intense flavours: chocolate, toffee, coffee, rum, pine, pineapple. Milky smooth palate with a little warmth in the finish. This bottle was over a year old, yet would have improved with more cellaring.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Almost completely opaque dark brown with a lighter brown head. Sweet pungent aroma of coffee, chocolate, caramel and some roasted malt. Heavy-bodied; Bitter coffee and chocolate tastes and a light caramel sweetness. Bitter chocolate aftertaste with a minute amount of hops noticeable at the end. Overall, a nice example of an Imperial Stout. I shared this 65 cL bottle with my good friend Jon, which he purchased at Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia. I sampled this beer on 02-March-2003.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: NOV 28, 2004 Blind Tasting, Thanks Hopsrus It pours the darkest brown with the most sticky head of the night. Vinous aroma full of dark fruits and blackberries. Very complex and reminiscent of phenomenal Stoudts Anniversary doppelbock. Cherry and raspberries notes with light black chocolate. Not much hops noticeable, but so pleasant that you can accept that. Palate is very malty, a coffee in which you’ve put a few too many cream and vanilla. A good dark fruit plate and some wow factor. An earthy hoppy finish and a creamy mouthfeel with perfect carbonation. This is a very balanced imperial stout although perhaps on the sweet side. Still to me this is far ahead from many better rated beers of the style.
A resampling many months later showed a much more vinous, almost like bread soaked in rum flavor profile without the fantastic fruitiness. Very sweet. Quite thin.. far less aromatic. I had this at 4.1, now would give it a 3.6, but am going to give it the benefit of the doubt and adjust to 3.8.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: NOV 28, 2004 Sweet, bulging blackberries and black grapes melting onto a candyish crème brûlée...Superb balance although sweetness seems to prevail in the long run...A rich, fruity realm which I’d like to visit again...

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Distinctive, resiny, estery, earth, raisins, dark plums, berries in the aroma. Ruby brown with thin tan head. Coffee, chocolate covered berries with a pleasing roastiness. Excellent balance. Bitterness is perfectly restrained. Very estery. Slightly sticky. Mouthfeel medium-full. Refreshingly light but satisfyingly full. This one is all about balance. Bottle. Blind tasting #8.
