COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Chocolate truffles, cocoa, espresso coffee, burnt currants, the sweetness of a sherry - all come to mind when enjoying an Imperial Stout. A rich porter of English origin brewed to withstand the long voyage from London to Czarist Russia. The classic "Winter Warmer". Big, Strong, Malty Stout.

Black garnet, nearly no head. A still black sea of stout. Nose is vinous with a hing of coffee. More bitter coffee in the flavor with notes of tobacco and oak. Under the surface lurks raisin, cherry, and port wine. Slightly astringent with a slight medicinal note from the alcohol. Medium to full bodied with almost no carbonation. Finishes with some lingering bitterness and a sour note. Not my favorite imperial.

Pours much more brown colored (versus black) than I expected from an Imperial Stout. Smallish tan head. Smells like caramel and roasted malt. Taste is roasted coffee, malt sweetness and some slight smoke. Big sticky body. Alcohol noticable on the swallow.

Dark color with a small creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate and dark fruits. Flavors of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits. Dark chocolate finish. Nicely warming.

Thick, murky dark brown liquid with no head retention, but it does have a ring of lace around the glass. Very sweet, intense chocolate when still slightly chilled which gets muted by the roasty aromas as it warms; alcohol and a very light currrant at the finish of the nose. Intensely roasty and chocolate, bitter, but not overly done from both hops and dark malts. The finish is a bit to the bittersweet and has a rich fruitiness, although I wouldn't necessarily call it currant. Aftertaste is sweet, chocolate, and a light hop flavor. Body is full which is also seen upon pouring with a subdued level of carbonation and very well hidden alcohol, but a little astringency from hops deters a little. Overall a very good beer, but lacks a little depth and complexity to be a true classic of the style, but I'd also love to see what some aging does to this beer.

This is quite possibly the most chocolate flavor I've experienced in a stout - cocoa, dark chocolate and even a touch of pudding are quite evident in the flavor - however, the appearance is more like a very dark brown ale, plus there isn't really any head at all - the aroma is highly alcoholic, but not much else - as a whole, this beer is an amatuerish effort, but the flavor is decent, so it's not all bad.

Home brew aroma - slightly undeveloped. A bit grassy, plus crude malt. The mouthfeel and flavour are much better. A good oily texture. Flavour is initially sweet, then the roasty, chocolate, coffee imperial stout flavours come though. An enjoyable imperial stout, but not an outstanding example. As I'm a big fan of this style this will get a decent score anyway.

I had to drink this one from the bottle so I was unable to get a good look at the appearance other than is was jet black. It tasted marvelous! Very nicely done with notes of coffee, chocolate, roasted elements and that overall 70,000 mile motor oil thick taste that comes with a good Imperial Stout! The mouthfeel was smooth with no bite and it went down oh so easily! Ummmm good!

I would never be able to differentiate this from Old Rasputin. Dark chocolate, coffee with a lot of hop flavor, though not as much as Storm King. Everything comes together very nicely. Thanks LiebeBier.

Medium black color, thin tan head. Malty hoppy aroma. Chocolate spice flavor. A great tasting beer and I'm sure one of Moylans best.

NIce chocolate aroma, with a tad bit of the alcohol snaeking through. The color is nice and black, but nothign special for the head. Flavor is smooth throughout, which is nice. The flavor does give a nice feel of the roasted currants in an oily mouthfeel.
