Port Barrel aged Ryan Sullivan’s with raspberries and cocoa nibs. On tap at Blue Palms. Pours with a deep black body and a lasting brown head. Aromas of port, raspberries, chocolate, light acidity, oak and alcohol. Flavors are dusty, cocoa, brett, funk, barnyard, raspberries, old books, acidity and tannic. Tasty but very odd. Creamy mouthfeel supported by medium carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Much thinner body than the Whiskey counterpart and the sweet port (calvados like) nose can be a bit much. Rich, raspberries, chocolate, sweet apples and a quickish finish. Nice, but compared to the other barrel, this wasn’t in the same ball park.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pitch black color. Lovely, rounded nose of raspberry, cocoa, port, but not a lot of roasted note. Mouth is moderately tart with good raspberry character and the alcohol is well hidden. It seems a bit unbalanced, but given that I just tried the whisky verison, still very enjoyable.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap at the Bistro BA fest. Pours brown/black. Aroma is oaky, grapey, musty. Med body. Flavor is musty oak with vinosity, and some genuine earthiness. Earthiness accumulates on the tongue.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft. Blackish beer with a light tan head. Chocolate and light alcohol aroma with light spirits. Malt and spirits flavor (expected more wine and port, but got more alcohol). Medium bodied. Malt and light alcohol lingers with light chocolate. Did not get the raspberries.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the Bistro Barrel Aged Fest. Deep dark brown color with a small light tan head. Big aroma of roast, chocolate, port, oak, and mild funk. Nice flavor. Toasty chocolatey malt base, dark fruits, berries and vinous notes, slight wild tartness and funk. Medium-bodied for the style with mild acidity and soft carbonation. A good mildly wild imperial stout.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at 38 Degrees Alhambra, CA
Appearance: Pours a jet brown with no head. Even swirling this beer around didn’t produce much head action.
Aroma: Vinous red grapes, red berry and yeasty funk.
Taste: Wine barrel, sour grape funk, coffee, bretty funk, danky musty cellar, black cherry.
Mouthfeel: Modest carbonation, a little sticky and way thinner than OG Ryan Sullivan.
Overall: A really great treat, completely transformed. Besides the color, and the coffee notes, this is unrecognizable as Moylan’s Ryan Sullivan’s Imperial Stout.
