Bottle pours black with huge root beer float type head. Goes downhill from there with roast acidic aroma with a touch of plastic. Taste moderately bitter roast malts with oak. Palate on the thin side. Didn’t get much bourbon or sweetness. Wouldn’t buy again.

Bottle (2013 Bourbon Barrel Aged 6 months) poured into a Belgian snifter. Pours a dark brownish black with two fingers of frothy tan head. Head fades slowly and leaves nice lacing. Big bourbon/whiskey on the nose with vanilla, dark fruit, oak. On the taste, big bourbon/whiskey again along with dark chocolate, toffee, oak. Bourbon/whiskey notes pretty much dominate. Around a medium body, seems a bit thin for an imperial stout. Dry and warm boozy finish.

On tap at Beachwood bbq Seal Beach poured into snifter. Appearance is nearly opaque black with a finger of tan head and patchy lacing. Aroma is booze, chocolate, vanilla, oak. Flavors are similar with lots of sweetness and a touch of roasty malt. Medium-full bodied, thick, chewy, slick texture; long sweet, hot finish, low carbonation.

Tap at Capones Annual Black Friday event, Norristown PA, 29/11/13. Mid black with a good sized tan head that retains well, lacing ensues. Bourbon evident on the nose, earthy cocoa, sweet toffee fudge, dark fruit tang, brown sugar. Taste comprises sweet dark toffee fudge, chocolate, bourbon infused wood, earthy, brown sugar, molasses. Full bodied, fine carbonation, sweet bourbon coated finale. Decent impy, the alcohol is well integrated and its a fairly easy drinking affair.

Bottle thanks to Bruce. It pours black with a thick tan head. The nose is roast, chocolate, vanilla, coconut, earth, bourbon and toast. The taste is smooth, roasted malt, earth, toast, vanilla, toasted coconut, ash, dull burnt notes, bourbon and decent bitterness with a dry finish. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Pretty tasty stuff all in all.

Bottle @ Bruce’s. Deep brown pour with a small head. The aroma’s of mild chocolate, cinnamon spice. Toast. Earthy charred wood. The taste is chocolate-covered berry. Boozy wood. Some nutmeg and vanilla. Earthy roast. Full body, smooth. Overall, a pretty nice imperial stout. Good.

Bottle at Jack’s farewell at Bruce’s. Pours black with a big, creamy light brown head leaving magnificent lacing down the glass. Nose shows heavy stewed fruits covered in sweet vanilla milk chocolate. Sweetness is balanced well with some burnt/ashy tones. Milky chocolate in the taste, some hop bitterness, raisins, thick toffee, light heat which works well. Damn good balance. All the notes come together brilliantly. Creamy mouth feel with lengthy bitterness on the finish. Great stuff

Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London on the inaugural evening of Jack’s Farewell Tour - big thanks to Bruce! Pours black with a creamy brown head. The nose is slightly medicinal, lots of dark malts, some burnt toast, general charred malts. Medium sweet flavor, lots of booze-soaked dark fruits, sugary dark chocolate, bitter earth and baking cocoa. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, lots of charred dark malts, strong roast, booze, dark fruits, raisins. Nice beer but certainly heavy.
