This poured a brighter orange color with a beige head. Aroma was loads of hops, light wine character, and some oak. Flavor was interesting to say the least, palate crushing hops, and a nice fruity balance between the grapefruit from the hops and the wine fruitiness. Nice experiement, and different than anything else i’ve ever had.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jonno (2001) - JAPAN - AUG 3, 2012
Big puncy hops on the nose. Some chardonnay character - spritzy character, but low carbonation. Weird. Slightly phenolic and a bit flat. Big biting citrus hops to finish. Nice hop burps. Nice, but I’ll stick with the original.

Light amber color, Chardonnay, lemon, pine, apple and a bit of phenols. Very sharp hop character in the mouth, oaky, chard. Alcohol well hidden, hops very sharp. Moderate bitterness.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 brewskis (87) - Saint John, Indiana, USA - JUL 20, 2012
On tap at Beer Geeks in Northwest Indiana. Pours a nice golden copper color with a one-finger head. Dissipates to a sticky lacing. Aroma is some tangerine, resin, sweet alcohol, with a ton of pine. Taste starts with resiny pine and some oak, then some citrus and hop bitterness. Get some sweet carmel flavor from the carmel malts at the end as well, but still overpowered by the hops for the most part. The chardonnay really shows through on the palate, as there is some lively carbonation and a tiny bit of astringent sourness on the finish. Have a feeling this could have been more bitter, but the chardonnay sort of smooths it out. Not the most balanced, but still an interesting beer that hop lovers would enjoy.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Aquilo (488) - Berkeley, California, USA - FEB 12, 2012
Cloudy golden copper color with a thin head. Piney hop aroma. Crisp bitter flavor. Very smooth and hoppy at the same time. Very good.

FoBAB 2011. Pours copper with white head. Aroma of citrus, pine, wood. Chardonnay barrel killed a little bit of the hop flavor, but was still a fairly good beer.

On tap at Fobab 9. Pours clear golden copper with white head. Aromas of pine and citrus, hops, and oak. Flavors of faded hops, pine, oak, and bit of vinous quality. Carbonation was kind of off. Had a decent nose, but hop presence did not carry over to the flavor of the beer.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ngeunit1 (1536) - San Francisco, California, USA - OCT 19, 2011
A - Served a clear golden-copper color with a finger of frothy white head atop. The head fades down fairly quickly leaving behind some nice lacing.
S - Aroma is a nice mix of strong pine hops and a bit of citrus hops as well. There is also some oak and rich sweet caramel malt as well.
T - Starts off with lots of fresh pine hops and plenty of bitterness. Bit of oak in the background as well. Through the middle, more hops come through with some citrus, more bitterness, and some rich sweet caramel malts as well. The finish is big on the hops, bitterness, and oak flavors and lingers for some time.
M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a nice dry and resiny mouthfeel.
D - Very drinkable. Lots of big fresh hop flavor that blends really nicely with the malts and the oak flavor as well. Super tasty harvest ale.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 mrmartin (558) - Oakland, California, USA - FEB 8, 2011
Hazy golden-orange pour with small yellowish head.
Resiny hops throughout, Bright hoppy opening, very dry finish and definitely get some of the barrel in the final flavor. Much milder than the original hopsickle but very nice.
