Clear golden pour, with a frothy, lasting ring of foam - nose of toasted grains, orange zest, ginger, pale malt sweetness - medium sweet, with notes of honey, but becomes dry and crackery through the middle, as well as lightly bitter - some gingerbread, perhaps faint cinnamon that hits the tongue and disappears before you even realize what it is - the spices are there, but they are subdued, muddled, hard to make out - a light bit of warmth, which I believe is the white pepper - it’s decent, but I would like a higher spice profile, and a bigger white pepper kick to make things interesting.

Amber pour with a cream head’. Nose is lemon, spice, malts, light wheat. Easy palate, zest, lemon, not much else.

Draft at Jerry’s. Gold-amber with good, creamy, off-white head, good lacing / Sweet nose of toast, caramel, baking spice / Light to medium body, soft carbonation, a touch watery, moderate sweetness with good balance and light bitterness on finish / Flavors of toast, fresh cinnamon roll,

Lots of spices but well balanced and not overwhelming. Reminds me of pfeffernüsse cookies.

On tap @ Moylans. Light amber colored pour with a white head. Really spicy aroma, which lives up to the billing. Clove, coriander, and cinnamon dominate. Lots of orange, too. Decent malt character of bread and toast. Moderate sweetness on the palate. Some caramel, bread, and toast. Spicy all the way through. Big coriander and cinnamon. A touch peppery on the finish. Some bitter orange notes as well. Kind of like it.

650ml brown bottle. Clear amber colour, fizzy tan head. Nose has toasted malts, dark breadiness, a little spice as well. Taste has bready malt and grain with late notes of pepper and light cinnamon. Dry finish with some lingering grainy notes and coriander in aftertaste. A nice winter brew, a good alternative to the usual Belgian and winter warmer type holiday beers.

Bottle to pint glass Lots of spice on the nose, predominantly clove, mace, pepper, and cinnamon. I also get some toasted malt. The colour is a clear deep amber and it has a long lasting thin tan head. There are lots of spices in the taste as well, but mace is easily the strongest, but I can make out coriander as well. I can’t say that I taste the pepper, but there is a slight warmth on the palate.

Not exactly my cup of tea with a heavy spice profile and mild hops and malts. A brigth yellowish amber appearance with a peakosh yellow head. Bit of sweet caramelized malt and light honey. Spices linger hard and thoroughly.

March 24th, 2012 - I don’t remember where I hid my Moylan’s for a whole season, but I didn’t get the Christmas lager experience until March. Oops. Nevermind, because this is a distinctive, singular beer no matter the month. The nose reminds me of Belgian yeasts, spiced with peppercorn, light fruit esters, peanut butter and even a little cashew. The flavor is similarly nutty, with honey glazed cashews layering savory on top of sweet. A light spiciness - perhaps the ghost of the peppercorns in the aroma - returns, with pairs nicely with some vegetable/herbal qualities. Its a curious blend, and the flavors don’t all go together, but it’s a unique Christmas brew, and strays from the warm, sweet, malty formula.

650ml bottle pours amber in color with a finger and a half of off-white head that settles to reveal some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is mild spices and caramel. Taste is a caramel malty sweetness with some tangy spices and a grassy hop bitterness. Medium bodied with some decent carbonation. This brew is ok, but there are better winter brews out there.

Bottle. Amber- brown in color. Not much head. Aroma was a light spicy and caramel smell. Taste was slightly sweet, dry fruit and spice.
