Commercial Description:
Our Pale Ale carries a moderate to high hop flavor, showing a citrus American hop character. Low to moderately high clean malt character supports the hop presentation and shows a small amount of specialty malt character. The balance is typically towards the late hops and bitterness, but a malt presence is detectible. It has a medium to dry finish with anise hop flavor and bitterness lingering for minutes.

This draft brew from the brewery poured a off-white colored head of foamy finely sized mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a transparent softly carbonated amber colored body. The aroma was malty with a mild caramel note. The mouth feel was tingly and crisp from start to finish. The flavor contained notes of caramel and hops.

Had this one on draught at the brewpub in West Dundee, Illinois. Nicest draw they have, so far! Clear copper pour with a thick tan head, very piney nose, sharp and bitter with plenty of citrus and piney hops, not really nuanced, just a typically good hop bomb, which is a bit unusual for the style. Very good!

Many a brewer would be happy to call this ale his/her IPA. It pours a golden amber body with a sustained creamy head that performs intricate lacing as you drink. The hops are up front in the aroma - strong grapefruit, zest of lemon, a wee touch of pine - allowing only a little of the malty sweetness to work it’s way out. The malty sweetness, grainy with a bit of caramel, is present in the flavor, to be sure, but it’s soon beaten down by the sturdy hop bitterness. Those hops linger a long time. It was my last pint at the brewpub, and that bitter flavor lasted all the way home. Well done, Frank.

M.T. Barrels Restaurant and Brewery, West Dundee, IL
