Commercial Description:
Czech Pilsner is the purest of beers - Clear and golden in color, it is light and crisp in taste. It is light straw to golden color and crystal clear. Hops are very prevalent usually with a spicy bitterness and or a spicy floral flavor & aroma, notably one of the defining characteristics of the Saaz hop. Smooth and crisp with a clean malty flavor. This lager is the closest thing to Czech Pilsner you can get, without actually being in the Czech Republic.

This draft brew from the brewery poured a medium sized head of foamy off-white colored finely sized mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a transparent very softly carbonated light orange colored body and a n excellent lacing. The aroma was of cardboard. The mouth feel was tingly and crisp from start to finish. The flavor was mildly astringent with crisp hops and mild malty notes.

My friend commented to me that this beer was his favorite at MT Barrels. He started the evening with this one, and from his reaction, I concluded that they must have changed the brew. I did finally get to this beer, it was the third choice of the day. A clear yellow brew with a decent enough sized head on it. I didn’t take the time to smell it but instead dove into the first sip. A taste that made stop and wince met that first taste. My friend just shook his head and I asked the bartender if they might have done something different with the brewing. His claim is that the head brewmaster may be tweaking the recipes just a little and this is not the same Czech pilsner recipe from a month ago. What a shame because I valued my friends opinion on the beer and we both were disappointed by this new variation.

Had this one on draught at the brewpub in West Dundee, Illinois. Clear, medium yellow pour with a fluffy white head, very faint nose of sour malts, with a bright, floral hoppiness to the taste that is uncharacteristic in this style. Grapefruit and a bit of candy balance the bitterness of the hops. Nice, especially for the style, but finishes brashly.

This pours a clear golden yellow body with a sizeable head. The aroma begins with sweet pale malts, slightly grainy, followed quickly by the floral, grassy aroma of Saaz hops. Smooth, needing just a little more carbonation, in the mouth. The malty flavors are well rounded, sweet without becoming overbearing. The hoppy bitterness is much stronger in the tasting, warming the tongue and balancing out the flavors. Nice crisp finish. Very quaffable.
