strangaj (215), West Chester, Ohio, USA Aug 17, 2007 Pours a deep dark brown with tan head. Aroma of maple malt and roast. Taste is extremely flavorful and well-balanced. In fact, the beer is quite sweet on the palate. I’d prefer this one over Bells, Sierra Nevada, and Sam Smith for the style. JCW (1262), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jul 26, 2007 Updated: Jul 28, 2007Take this for what it is worth, I like a well made nut brown, and I really like this one. Flavor is mellow, no burnt or roast flavors, just nutty like walnuts & hazelnuts. The color is a translucent brown, with a moderate tan head. Slight sweet nutty finish. This is not going to be everybody’s RB favorite, frankly its not bold enough, but a nut brown isn’t supposed to be. It is a nice session beer for someone that likes a nutty flavor, not a roasted flavor, and this beer fits that bill very well. shigadeyo (1388), Southwest Ohio Area, Ohio, USA May 12, 2007 Date: 5/12/2007
Serving: Draught sample.
Location: Jungle Jim’s Second Spring Beer Fest
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Maple, coffee, nut truffle.
Appearance: Clear chesnut with a frothy off-white crown.
Flavor: Coffee and mocha moving toward a nice nutty (hazelnut?) quality. Moderately sweet overall.
Palate: Medium-light to medium. A bit thin, but not watery or overly carbonated/ I would have just liked a little bit more body behind it. Smooth overall.
Overall: A very unique and well-crafted nut brown ale. Very good and highly recommended. Probably the best offering; might even be better than the Mr. Carmel Stout... Available in growlers at local stores VERY soon!
Tmoney99 (3620), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA May 23, 2007 Growler. Poured hazy brown color with average fizzy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate nutty toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth textrure. Moderate toasted balanced flavor with an average bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good next addition to the list of Mt. Carmel brews. Capa (738), Yokosuka, Japan Aug 7, 2008 Growler. Dark brown with a nice, creamy, beige head. Nutty, sweet malts, light milk, and some chocolate. very pleasant. easily swig-able body. Malty, light nuts, some toasted biscuits, and little hazel. Not a world-beater, but a solid brown thats pretty refreshing.
