UPDATED: JAN 8, 2009 What a hell of a beer. Me and the GF picked this one up from Jungle Jims on our last Cincy trip. Bought it mostly just because I’m a growler whore and wanted to try something new. Didn;t have big expectations for this one at all, and figured it would be average at best. Boy, was I wrong. Now, you’d never mistake this for Dark Lord or Expedition or Speedway, but I bet this one would hold its own against ANY of the non-imperial stouts out there! This one is delicious. Very black and rich. Creamy mouthfeel. A strong nuttiness in the aroma and flavor. Fresh coffe in the mix, as well as hints of chocolate and dark candy. Some carmel and roasted barley floating around as well. Nice and thick. Clings to the mouth the way melted chocolate does. Leaves an aftertaste almost like hot chocolate. I was very impressed, and at 6%, drank the whole growler in one setting. Will be getting more for sure next time I am in Cincy!

#1000 On tap at Jungle Jims Spring Brew Fest. Pours out a almost black topped with a nice tan head. A nice sweet aroma of coffee and dark chocolate. tast more of the sweetness and some bitter dark. Also a nice roast malt on it. I am happy to have a small local brew as my 1K.

Half gallon bottle, pours very nice deep brown/black, with very tan head. Aroma is overwhelmingly coffee and chocolate. A roasted mocha flavor is the best way to describe the flavor. The body is somewhat light, one of the low points of an otherwise great beer.

Growler from Party Source. Pours an opaque black color with a medium thick and foamy tan head that diminishes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. Roasted malt and coffee in the nose, plus a hint on anise. Rich and creamy body with a nice roasted character. Flavors of sweet malt, milk chocolate and coffee are all present along with a bit of hops. The finish is roasty with a coffee aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

I think Cewldre sent me a growler of this. Thanks! Pours a nice deep black with not much light shining through- decent head and good lace. Aroma is sharp nutty chocolate malts, with lots of roast and coffee- very clean. Nice toasty and sharp roasted malts, chocolates, light doughy yeast and some mineral in the finish. Damn- this was way better than expected. Very well made stout.

Growler shared by Dickinsonbeer. It pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is strong with fume-y chocolate and espresso bean. Taste is lightly mineral and sweat dark malts. Very nice, highly drinkable stout.

Shared by dickinsonbeer at his gathering, from a growler. Black in color- no head, looks like the carbonation is suffering from the growler. Aroma: roast, chocolate, light notes of caramel and chalk. Taste: assertive roast and chocolate, balanced nicely by some sweet crystal/pale malts. Some lingering roast and dry chocolate in the finish. well done.

Black appearance with a nice brown head. Chocolatey coffee notes that balance really well with the creamy body. Nice and heavy, like a stout should be. Great in front of an outdoor fire. Winner.

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2007 Growler via Mys Swap 2.0 (thanks cewldre!). Pours black with a huge tan head. Nose is chocolate, roasty, and floral hops. Tastes just like it smells, is pretty sweet with a nice mocha finish. Body is light, carbonation moderate/high. Tis is quite tasty and highly sessionable. I would rate it even higher if it wasn’t so over-carbonated.
