3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Schroppfy (2319) - Łódż, Warsaw, Poland; Michigan, USA - SEP 3, 2009
Good and roasty, mostly but not completely dry - a little raisiny sweetness but not much. A good hit of coffee. Pours and stays a little still. Coffee acidity shows up in the flavor, ash, not well integrated - separate. Piney hops, for example, are in the taste too. Could mellow.
3.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DavoleBomb (965) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 20, 2012
Poured into a snifter.
3.5 A: Black color. One fingers of creamy medium brown head. Retention is below average and a small ring of lacing is left.
4.5 S: Really surprised by how good this smells. Moderate roastines. Dark caramel malts mesh well with coffee tones. Smokiness to round things off. Really smooth, well integratied aromas.
3.5 T: Damn, disappointment in the taste. It’s not bad, but the nose lead me on a little. Smokiness with dark crystal malts and coffee again, but less sweet than I was expecting. A slight, almost acrid, burntness, but it isn’t necessarily that bad.
3.5 M: Light to light medium body. Good moderate carbonation. I wish it were creamier, but it’s not bad for the body. Smooth.
3.5 D: Not a bad beer, but not interesting enough to make me want to buy it again.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 KajII (344) - Macon, North Carolina, USA - JAN 5, 2012
Bottle. The pour was jet black with a slight dark brown hue around the edges and had an average sized (1-2 finger) light brown frothy head, that reduced quickly to just a thin layer of residue which produced a bit of fair lacing.
The aroma was of a roasted grain malt and a mild leathery yeast with notes of chocolate, coffee and molasses with just a hint of dark fruit.
The taste was lightly sweet and a bit bitter with notes of chocolate and molasses throughout with a strong coffee note somewhere in between with a nice pronounced dark fruit presence at the end. The flavor hung on for a decent amount of time which allowed the fruity coffee flavor to be fully enjoyed.
Mouthfeel was just a tad beyond medium in body with the texture being creamy and a little oily and having an almost flat carbonation.
Overall a nice robust Stout, with a unique fruity finish.

Bottle or tap I can’t remember. This was pretty impressive, especially from a brewery I had never heard of until this festival. Really well blended flavors of chocolate and coffee. Milk chocolate mouthfeel. Nice
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Drake (4803) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - SEP 8, 2011
12 ounce bottle from Belmont Party Supply. Pours nearly black with a thin brown head that fades quickly. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and espresso. The taste is roasted malts, rich coffee notes, caramel and a faint hoppy finish. Thin-medium bodied. Very tasty. I could drink this all day... and the next day. Never had these guys’ beers before tonight, but so far I’m impressed.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 DrSilverworm (711) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 19, 2011
12oz bottle, purchased from Dutch’s for $1.50. Totally opaque black color, bubbles on side of glass. Light-to-medium brown minimal head around the perimeter. Little lacing. Aroma is a good roasty coffee, some chocolate. But it’s not very strong - bordering on tasting watered down. Carbonation further masks the aroma. Texture is good, however, and aftertaste is moderately pleasant. Light bitter taste.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20 EithCubes (3054) - GERMANY - AUG 6, 2011
Bottle. Nose is roast chocolate, coffee burn, licorice. A little sweetness amid the heavy, heavy roast. Pours a rich dark brown/black with a dark brown head. Light body, inky and silken, roasty but smooth, sweet chocolate and a touch of berry without ash encroachment. Balanced and very drinkable, complex and clean and tasty!
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 kramer (3376) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 24, 2011
12 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark brown body with a small fizzy brown head that faded to a thin wispy film. The nose is very nice, deep roasted malt with some nice coffee and bakers chocolate accents. The flavor is also pretty solid, great chocolate and dry roasted malts make for a rather rich and yet easy drinking Stout. The finish is laced with fresh roasted coffee notes and just the lightest bit of malt bitterness that dries it out a bit. There’s also a light bit of hops in there that suggests a citrusy note that comes from some coffee beans. Mouthfeel is creamy and really smooth with perfect light carbonation. No astringency at all. This was really a big surprise for me, I was not expecting much at all, but this is a really really solid Stout that I would drink all the time if I had access to it. It actually reminds me quite a bit of DFH Chicory Stout come to think of it. Great beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Pawola22 (1993) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 15, 2011
12oz bottle from a random trade at Dark Lord Day. Pours a black body with a thin, creamy, dark brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma has lots of dark chocolate and roast with a pleasant sweetness. A touch of caramel, a distinct dark fruit, coffee, and a bit of a milky chocolate as well. Flavor is similar. Fairly sweet with lots of dark chocolates as well as a milky sweetness. More distinct dark fruits with some caramel, roast, a light coffee, and a bit of a vanilla sweetness. Finishes sweet and chocolatey, but with a balanced roastiness that helps this end creamy and slowly dries with a light bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a full, creamy, chewy body and medium-light carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid stout. Fairly sweet and chocolatey, but well balanced with a solid roasty, coffee presence. I like the dark fruit hints to this as well. Not bad at all.
